I am doing some reasurch into FPS games for a cause that cant be mentioned at the moment, but would like to know from you, gamers, your answers to the following eight questions.

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

2] Why is this your favourite game?

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

This message is being posted in quite a few forums, please forgive me if it sounds a bit generic. I am previous member of all used forums, and have not signed up just to post this survey. If a moderator deems the survey unappropriate, please feel free to delete it, however, I would appreciate an email / pm with your reasoning.

Thank you for your time

I like HL2 because of the physics and the displacement surfaces. I like free for all DM. Only with the Crowbar! [addsig]

All I want to know is if HL2 is better than HL. All I want is a yes or no answer. Please someone give me a yes or no answer pleeease. Anways back on topic sorry about derailing your thread there.

1) Um can't decided there's a few you can already guess off the top of your head... cough*Half Life*cough.

2) Everything in the game makes it my favorite and I mean everything. The story was awesome. It was a long game the first time I played it. The puzzles are fun as hell to figure out. THe bosses are awesome. The weapons were fun to use. The different enviroments were well designed and fun. The music was great. The game also kept you wanting to keep playing it. The ending was the best ending for any FPS game.

3) Halo could've been as great as Half Life and Halo was amazing and it was a hard decision choosing between Half Life and Halo but I had to go with Half Life as the winner.

4) I hate stealth and I hate running through a game constantly. Half Life provided a perfect medium for this.

6) Halo is the only good FPS with vehicles in it. Unless you count the tram as a vehicle.

5) I love the gimmmicks. I have to mention Half Life again because it provided a plethora of awesome thinking puzzles and sometimes even a little humor added in.

7) I like the team based stuff more.

You should have just made a PHP or JavaScript page with all these question that auto-emails to a newly made yahoo account.

1) I can't choose. They're are too many good ones and they're all good for different reasons. But, Right now, I'm pretty into HL2.

2) It isn't. Just the one I play the most at the moment.

3) Chrome. It's a really good game, but it has a little clunkiness to it.

4) Both. I can't choose, they work differently in each game. I think I like MoH a lot because you can pace your self and stealth through missions. I'm not to crazy about the MoH run 'n' gun areas. But, I love the style of Painkiller, Quake, Doom, etc. Just in separate fashions.

5) Yes. They're all favorable in their own light.

6) A nice start to something greater.

7) Both. Free for all is fun, but so is team based stuff. I usually lean towards Team DM, it just depends on who I'm playing with.

8 ) I'd most likely choose DM, not that I don't like CTF, I'd rather play Team DM then either though.

You need to make your questions have more leniency.

Spartan, it depends on what you loved about HL1. If you liked the repetitiveness, then you'll probably think HL2 is way too short. However, if you just liked the badass-ness of HL1. You'll love HL2. I wouldn't say one is better then the other, because, even if HL2 may be more advanced with game play and technology, it wouldn't exist without HL1.

In other words. Think for your self. [addsig]

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

I always enjoy playing Half-Life.

2] Why is this your favourite game?

All those mods, the excitement ... aaah ...

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

Daikatana was supposed to be great, but lacks every friggin feature ?

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

A healthy combination of both. (Like some metal gear solid levels. You can play them wild-style, popping caps around, or you could just sneak your way through them slowly.)

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

Gimmicks are just fun to discover, and as long as they don't interfere with the atmosphere, they're oK.

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

Pretty much against that. A first person shooter is a first person shooter, not a race game.

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

Team Based, definitely.

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

CTF.

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

Unreal Tournament 2004

2] Why is this your favourite game?

Because it's intense, I own it and it's my newest game.

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

Half-life 2. It lacks the feature of me owning it.

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

Fast-paced.

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

Serious gameplay. Anything funny that basically qualifies as an Easter Egg and doesn't unbalance gameplay is also cool, like small things on the side that interact in a funny way or a humorous map description, but no weapons that spawn Gargs please.

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

You Brits sure do spell words funny. Assuming "veachle" is a "vehicle", then I say it truly depends on implementation, game objective and game balance. UT2K4's Onslaught mode is great for vehicles, but they would suck in Bombing Run.

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

FFA pretty much is a gamemode - there's not too much you can do with it to really change it up. Teamplay allows for more complex gamemodes, but at the same time can create a sharper learning curve and makes it easier for unskilled and/or idiotic players to ruin the game experience.

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

I play both pretty much equally.

1] What is your favourite FPS game?
Half-Life 2

2] Why is this your favourite game?
Baulder's Gate 2

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?
Halo 2 badly needs to be modable. Real bad.

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.
I like a combination, or games that reward multiple styles of play.

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?
I really liked the sequence before you got the Tau Cannon in HL1.

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?
I didn't like them, but HL2 really handles them well. I was plesantly suprised.

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?
Depends on my mood, really. I don't care for tactical teamplay, since it doesn't work terribly well save for clan games.

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?
Depends on my mood again, although I really like unique gameplay. Science and Industry and The Ship spring to mind.

HOW IN THW HELL DO YOU HAVE -7 SNARKMARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

back to topic:

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

Half Life 2

2] Why is this your favourite game?

Because it incorporates pyhiscs into the gameplay, making it more dynamic, meaning you can change the gameplay around and approach situaions differently

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

Hmmmmm......Doom 3 lacked the gameplay, it was just linear shooting (which isnt bad I like the game A LOT!)

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

A mix of all, like MGS series, it can be fast or slow

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

Do you mean like XIII? Never cared for it, but I did like that HL2 incorporated its old sounds into it.

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

Good as long as its not over done, UT2004 kinda pushed that a little

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

I like all these types mixed into one (something you can choose from) Like Halo

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

Deathmatch all the way

is this to do with what features to add to some, as yet unannounced, hl2 mod?

finding out what people want without the inherent dandgers of a 'mymod' thread, maybe?

Someone asked a question about something that was impossible in HL2DM, I told them how to do it in HL2, it got rejected, I got docked Snarkmarks.

Thanks for the answers so far guys, and I appologise for any spelling mistakes/gramatical errors -- but it was written late at night

I intend to put up a webpage with answers from several forums, some people might find the responses interesting.

As for its purpose, I wont be telling anyone too soon, although, it is not a HL2 mod as has been sugested.

It doesn't, though the current code can sometimes mess up and think you have answered -1 questions...

(havent got d3 or hl2 yet)

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

used to be tfc, last year it was flf. (enter the matrix is nice too)

2] Why is this your favourite game?

tfc: good clanwars are awesome. flf: everything is great about it

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

halo. the little aliens are childish

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

Fast-paced.

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

dukenukem3d wouldnt be the same without it no, i like it serious

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

depends on the game. Tribes and UT2K4's Onslaught wouldnt be as great as they are if they didnt have vehicles. i dont like games where you have to run 2 minutes before you meet an enemy

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

if multiplayer -> team-based

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

1] What is your favourite FPS game?

- Changes from time to time. Though Half-Life made the most impact on me.

2] Why is this your favourite game?

- Because of it's modding possibilities. I often find creating stuff more fun than playing stuff.

3] Can you think of a FPS game out there that is great, but lacks some rather essential feature?

- Halo. Great fun, hard action, fast-paced gameplay... but at the end, too little variation, especially the combat became very repetetive (aarg, no more Flood!). Especially on hard combat got, well, hard, wich became extremely time consuming instead of more challenging.
On a sidenote: I like to get rewarded on a harder setting too... some extra area's 'n stuff... I miss that in a lot of games...

4] Do you prefur fast paced gameplay, or slow, stealth based gameplay.

- Both. A good combination is preferred though as otherwise it becomes boring to
me. Halo, for example, offered a great deal of combat, but the fun wore off after a while simply because it became too repetetive.

5] Do you like gimmicks, original weapon ideas, booby traps, and humerous sound-bites, or more serious gameplay?

- I'm more towards the funny style. Doing unusual things, funny extra's... yeah, I like that.

6] What do you think of veachles in FPS games?

- I usually like vehicles in FPS, unless the game isn't suited for vehicles or they're annoying to drive or similar flaws.

7) Do you prefur team based gamemodes, or free for all based gamemodes?

- Team based. Wich means I don't have to be on the lookout for everyone...

8] Chosing from deathmatch or capture the flag, do you have a preference?

- Capture the flag. It has a more well-defined goal in my opinion.
