This was posted, perhaps as long as two snarkpit versions ago, but I think its a worthy freeware program that everyone should know about, especially those whom do not have access to the high dollar competitors.

If you need an office type program please try Easy Office

I have been using it for quite some time now, and prefer it to MS Office by and large.

Still, its free so that should entice some..

be good.

I'd prefer OpenOffice. Sun is awesome (except when speaking about the Solaris interface)

Not to mention, I've had to use MiKeTeX and TexMacs lately for school. Their printing quality surpass most any 'office' suite.

Microsoft Office is free for me and has more compatibility with other things. We get a free copy at work, so i have always just used MS... I've never really had any desire to use anything else. [addsig]

you silly butt, many of us have "access" to MS Office, my goal was to help those with higher morals than i have.

easy office is freeware, as is open office i assume.

ever once in a while i like to help people, who cannot bring themselves to acquire *taboo* programs .

Good stuff, I can't abide MS Office and only need stuff for casual essays and CV's and the like. Will have a look into this, definately now I have broadband. Downloading large files is no longer a mammoth undertaking

I love to use OpenOffice if it's a document that won't need to be opened in Word, but if it's some document that people without OO will need to work on, I use Word every time.

Oh, so you've used TeK suites Crono? I have to say I think they're fantastic. I've used LaTeK myself (a recommendation from my tutor, who wrote his PhD thesis with it) and it comes out looking a hell of a lot more proffesional than anything written in MS Office/OpenOfficK . However, it's advantages only lie in writing mathematical or scientific documents, with things like English there aren't really any significant advantages (TeK is like a programming language in some ways, a hybrid of sorts really. It's designed for Linux (and there are free editors such as LaTeX/LaTek (can't remember) out there which output to a PDF, but Windows editors can be obtained - for a price.)

I had to use Easy Office last term because of a lack of Office XP. TBH I thought it was pretty dire- my main problems were the grammar/spell check doesn't work very well in word, spacing and locating the cursor can be a complete nightmare, and the spreadsheet doesn't work if you want to do anything more advanced than just typing in numbers. I was very glad to uninstall it and would personally recommend to anyone NOT to bother with it

well, there you are.. easy office sucks..

i still like it though.. i have many office programs (please don't ask how) and its still the best one for my use.

i do however acknowledge, that i have no REAL comparison uses to score it against, since i only use it to keep track of my deliveries, and monies spent for tax purposes.

i defer to leps experience, BUT would like to point out, its poor taste to say a product sucks, and not give an alternate product in its place.

if you know of a free program, that is superior, please post it.

I've always wanted to try open office, however I've just never really had the need as MS office came with my computer and I've been satisfied with it. If I ever get a new computer I will definitely give it a try on free bsd.

Has anyone used the Koffice that comes with kde? We use kde at work and taking a breif look over it it didnt seem too bad, although at first glance it appeared that some of the file formats were not compatible with ms office. Since its available as source it should be portable to windows.

Any program with the word "easy" in the title makes me suspicious. [addsig]

Kinda like i am leary of any movie with "beach" "party" "spring break adventure" in the title.

personally, i think any program with "freeware" in its acquisition, has some merit.

i know some of you have better programs available, but no one is breaking anyones arm to use these guys.

no one "had" to use it.. no one "had" to complain about it either.

remember the basic rule of thumb, with few exceptions.. "you get what you paid for"
