It was hella difficult and frustrating, and I almost ate my mouse after doing it over and over for an hour. Then I suddenly noticed that the gate has been open all along, and the area on the other side of the fence is never meant to be jumped over.
I wish I realized this earlier, so I didn't stay up way past my bedtime trying to continue the game.
Call me stupid, because I am. But did anyone else make the same mistake?

I got this overcomplication in Hl1, at the end of the whole train track thing. For hours I ran around trying to figure out what would open the big doors at the rocket. Standing beside them kinda helped.
With Cassius' approach you can't go wrong, however I feel this detracts from games; you should either breeze through or be stumped at every step, rather than have to think "now if I were a level designer...."

I remember running around making piles of s**t for quite a while, trying to hop this damn fence only to mind out I had to shoot something minor to get through. Pain in my ass. [addsig]

I think that's one of the good things about the game... there are a few different ways of tackling most problems.

you were supposed to unclog the gears on the backside of the gates ![]()
then the gears will move and the gate lifts up/

Haha... I looked everywhere on the back of the gates for something to release them. Ah well. Time to see the optician me thinks...

I'm not exactly sure where you're describing. Perhaps I haven't gotten to that point yet. I am still navigating the canal.
But after spending so much time stacking barrels (on top of a cart with wheels, to make things more difficult for myself), I became quite skilled at manipulating objects in the HL2 world. I even managed to stack three levels of barrels vertically (painfully frustrating to make them vertical when they're not) on top of the moving cart. I was careful enough to successfully jump onto the moving cart, and then hop on each successive level of the vertical barrel until I was actually higher than the fence. But despite all that effort, I was still unable to hop over the fence (they must have put some clip brush there).
Perhaps that trick should win me an audition to some Las Vegas sideshow.

Where you find the crossbow.

Is this where you have got the car-thing right? and whenever you try to drive beside the train, another one comes by and hits you? It is on a bridge with two sets of tracks and one has a train on it?

The button deactivates the forcefields on the bridge; just go back and cross it with the buggy.

Next time I remembered my thrusty turbo button... Neat surprize there, yeah...
Oh, just before that button that disabled the force field, you had to get up to that control roomie. While in the 'basement' of that bridge pillar there was a little plateau you could reach by a ladder outside. First time I didn't notice the door that lead to that ladder so I tried to get up there using the barrels 'n stuff aroun there. I felt pretty stupid after I noticed that door... and that was after 15 minutes or so...
