the rating system is lacking, for instance, mine is currently at 4.1/5 but other than myself, no one else is aware at how fragile that score is, or solid for that matter, in my case 27 members have taken the time to actually vote on me..

but IMO if no one else knows how many actually voted, and in effect altered my score up and down, its not impressive at all...

for instance, member "A" has a score of 4.5/5 but only 2 people voted, and member "B" has a score of 4.4/5 but 10 people took the initiative.. the 4.4 IMO would be much more telling, or revealing of this persons overall status at snarkpit, cause it has more odds of altering one way or another..

my point?

i would like to see, not only the score but also the "how" of it... IE in my case 4.1/5 by 27 members..

also, i think that disabling your score may be within the privacy policy, but its also a cowardly way to remain anonymous.. if you desire privacy thats fine, if you are an asshole in sheep's clothing, you should have to show your scores..

anyways, opinions guys?

I think the rating system should be done away with, much like the map score should be done away with on GA.

There are so many different ways to view a person, as well as a map.  Someone might rate "Bill" a 1 because of his attitude; but, his maps are great works of art, so someone else rates him a 5 for his mapping ability.

Maybe there ought to be several categories to rate, or, like I said at the start, they should be done away with completely.

Rating is in the eye of the beholder.  Afterall, all it really causes (in the long run) is bitching.

/ IMO

doc, we already have 2 systems that cover both areas you mention..

how many more than both do we actually need?

i think the scoring system works, when it fails its not the system, but the individual/s whom want it to fail, screw it up..

we have a banned member, who shall remain nameless, but he is an example, its not the system, its him , at least in the example i am giving.. he is not actually influential enuff to mess it all up..

anyways... more opinions guys?

it does list in such persons profile how many people voted on such person. however i do agree, why not display that in the forums section to.

i think the snarkmarks was a bit of help too, for those who care it drives them to keep the community going by rating others, commentingo n maps, making maps...etc.

i do however think there should be somewhere which someone can check to see who voted on them, the personal rating encurages<SP?> people to vote whatever they want, and in most cases its bad. like in my case, i was voted very poorly on by a few memebers due to a bad forum post that was meant to be a joke. i think that if people knew who was voting on them, those voting would think more about what the person acually deserves. just my opinion.

yeah, you could, but i think it should be part of the forum, ha;f of the info is there anyways, why not the remainder

personally, i don't go thru each profile, once i have voted on them anyways...

besides, i am just asking, to see how popular the idea is anyways... no harm done..

and to answer you sinner, i don't think it would be fair to be able to check up on folks who voted on you, because that would only encourage hurt, or biased voting..

its pretty much a given how doc and i voted on each other on the "personal" rating system, but the maps one, we are mutually avoiding the comments section.. the scores would not go very well if we did anyways, so why ruin a good setup...

besides, with the map portion, it does log the scoring parties name... its a bit harder getting away with being a prick there..

more opinions guys?

I think I'd rather know who I've already rated what. I can never remember. Like, if i look at their profile and it tells me what I rated them before, or maybe just a listing accessible as a pop-up from my control panel.

It doesn't tell you in the forums how many because it has to do a lot of extra work and database querying- if you really want to find out more from a person, read their profile and not their 4-line-long forum personal box...
