i somehow got a mAJOR virus while i was away.....
im using http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
it usually works .... on my brothers computer it nearly took over, it installed programs , viruses , made us look at horribly made advertisements, when we disconnected the internet cable it tried to restart .... luckilly that computer sucks so bad that it failed to run the requested action and the virus was halted in its tracks
ive used 3 different virus scanners none have worked on cleaning 16 viruses had been dectected... = / seems to be trojans Do not use internet explorer. he was just google searching when this happpened " a pop up ad came up and he closed it... then his desktop turned into a webpage.... then i came home thought my bro did it for a joke or somthing and screwed around with it... i made the bground into google.. amazingly this nearly fixed the virus on my computer....

The virus makes your background into webpage. It locks all of your pref's and all sorts of stuff deletes favorites. this webpage uploads immense amounts of trojans and spyware. The spyware is easy to remove. the trojans are not. The quicker you move the better it helps .

WATCH OUT FOR INTERNET EXPLORER! all my brother did is go around google [addsig]

Methinks you might have a browser hijacker.

If you haven't already done so, get spybot search&destroy and adaware SE. Update both. Reboot in safe mode, run them and clean off everything they find. Also run any *updated* virus scanner and clean everything you can find.

If the problems still persist you should try one of the numerous forums where there are lot of people willing to help with getting rid of spyware.

Then you might want to think about getting a software firewall too. The WinXP firewall is fine, but can be circumvented easily (from what I hear).

Edit: For some reason, AV packages think spyware are not viruses.

If you think you have a virus, and scanners cannot remove it, boot in safe mode, then scan.

You cannot get rid of IE . At least, not completely. Most of the dangerous stuff still lies around waiting to be exploited because many apps need the functionality of IE to work. Best you can do is to avoid using it, and educate the users.
