Hey all, its me Half-dude

Ok, today I did the stupidest think, I was messing with the HL2 deathmatch options and I turned the aspect ratio to widescreen so now the screen is black and I can't see to turn it back

But anyway, I uninstalled HL2 thinking that it would fix HL2 deathmatch but then on the 4th disk of the install process a message comes up saying

"Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed becouse, the file cannot be found in cabnet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from cd-rom, or a problem with this package."

BUT then after trying 3 more times and having it still not work I restarted my computer then when the computer started back up again HALF-LIFE 2 WAS MAGICALLY REINSTALLED SEEMING TO BE FULLY INSTALLED!!!!!!!!

I WILL REQUEST TO LEP TO GIVE 20 EXTRA SNARKMARKS TO THE PERSON THAT CAN GIVE ME A LOGICAL ANSWER TO THIS OR THAT CAN TELL ME HOW TO FIX MY HL2 DEATHMATCH!

think you

Pretty sure you could set your resolution manually in the run options so that you can change the in-game settings back properly. -height 1024 -width 768 I believe would give you a good default (or whatever works)

You had enough hl2 installed where as you could get the rest off of steam... OR

you uninstalled the files from the hl2 folder, but not the gfc, thus all hl2 had to do was run and re-make all the defaults

hl2.ico1 is an icon file, you don't need it at all to run the game. It just makes your desktop shortcut look nicer - but it seems that the desktop shortcut actually uses an archive of the icon, which is retained even after you delete the original file. In other words, not only do you never need that file, you never actaully removed it in the first place. [addsig]

Yea but Im still concerned, becouse it freaked out on disk 4 so I still had a whole disk to go. I tried HL2 editor and it said that it couldent find some file when I was compiling. This could be an after effect of that. I need your guys help since Valve hung up on me!! [addsig]

Hammer didn't work for me until I ran HL2 and HL2DM. I'm not sure what your error message was, but that could have been it.

First off, never uninstall an application because of a problem like this, it just doesn't make sense. Also, it isn't magic, it's called crappy registry editing.

What exactly is the problem now? Gorb told you how to fix the screen aspect (which you can google and find very quickly). Is it just not running?
