I didn't ever play games on my laptop during college - at the time I had a Vaio with a Celeron 900. But I did keep HL/Worldcraft and Serious Sam on it for some editor fiddling during classes here and there.

My new laptop, though, whoa. I got it for power as well as productivity - Inspiron with a P4 2.8 ghz chip and a pretty solid Radeon mobility card. Was able to play UT2K3/4 and even Halo PC at some solid framerates. Mainly got that for use in Max/Maya - at the time I was still in school and was going to be a level designer on a locally contracted educational title. Then this guy from Raven e-mailed me and, well, now that laptop is for games that don't like dual monitors, financial software, and the drive back and forth between here and NE.

As for the actual topic at hand, the PSP looks pretty good graphically, but it just doesn't really seem to be my thing. I like what I've seen of the DS. Looking ahead to some increased travel in the future (E3, GDC, more trips home after Quake ships, etc.), the DS is something I actually am somewhat inclined to try out. [addsig]

I play Tyrian 2 on my antique 486DX2/66 laptop. Very expensive ten years ago but I got it for 5 bucks last year. I do this because:

It's portable (although using the floppy drive as a mouse pad is a pain)
Battery life: 8-10 hours (the 486 has a very low power consumption compared to modern machines)
Tyrian 2 won't work on anything faster than a Pentium 1!?! [addsig]

Didn't Super Nintendo already to the pop-out cart thing? That's so 14 years ago.

I tried out Hunters in the store and I'm not sold on it. However, Mario is fun. There's some awesome games coming out too!

The PSP has like two "maybe" good games lined up: MGS: Acid, and Castlevania (unless that's actually for the PS2 and I was just really tired when I read the review) [addsig]

It's liek comparing Apples and Oranges with PSP and DS as far as I'm concerned. DS is a rehash of GBA with better graphics, wirless capabilities and a touch screen.

PSP is a full personal entertainment system, not to mention the graphics BLOW the DS out of the water. I believe the PSP will be the first handheld device to put handheld gaming in the MAJOR MARKET, I'm talking PS1/PS2 sales numbers.

You're not counting the GBA-SP are you? I mean it is the top selling console of all time
It's also the only console, ever, that Nintendo has never lost money on.

I think people need to cool it on the graphics issue. Gameplay is what matters, remember? That's why the GBA sells so well. I'm not saying the PSP won't cary good games, but so far is just looks like a handheld ps2 which isn't impressive at all in any aspect what so ever.

Also, Wario Ware is a "party game" that's pretty much made for 3 year olds [addsig]

I have an SP (and a regular GBA I found on the road once with Pokemon Sapphire to boot) and I love it. I really only have all the Zelda games, Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls and Metroid Fusion.

I played a DS the other day, I'd have to say I wasn't all that impressed, nor with the PSP so far either. I don't think I could justify buying one for the cost right now, perhaps in a few years when there are more games and it's a bit cheaper.

Wario Ware is the best drinking game with 3 other friends. (I'm talking the GCN version).

I'll be getting a DS at some point this week; everyone in my Uni course is getting one (being a Video Game course ), so I'm expecting some mad in-between lecture DS-related gaming madness. Besides, makes a nice alternative to bloody UT2003 all the time.
