i think the better question is, where do you live geographically. not your local address please.
then assuming you live in the US we can point you to sites like pricewatch
with this website, you can look up your own video card without the need of embarrassing yourself (like i did today with my PC specs).
you can get a 9600 xt for under 150 now at pricewatch.
as for the site, i have bought several hundred dollars worth of things from there. does that mean they are reliable? i dunno, the site only list vendors, but so far i have been fine.
there is a place there somewhere, where you can get a user report on each vendor, check them via other users.

price? i dunno, but PCG rated the 800xt better at HL2 than the 6800 pro or maybe gt.
i dunno about prices though.
the money conversions always throw me off, so you may need to research those two cards.
i can go get the magazine if its important, and please excuse the typo's if i named the cards incorrectly. however the 800 and the 6800 are correct designations.

probably be dropping in price in the not too distant future so I'm
gonna wait it out. ATI cards might just have the lead when it comes
HL2, but in most other games it seems nVidia are a tad better in the
current generation. Check out benchmarks like at Tom's Hardware to find
whats best for the games you play in your price range...

heh we seem to be in the same case, coming from a Ti4200 going to a 6800GT. you also go through numerous review sites and then go for the one that seems to have the best quality/price ratio?
Anyway, when do you think the price is gonna drop? weeks, months?
It has droppped 20 euros over the last few months, now being at 430euros over here. (ps i only buy in shops, not online) [addsig]

Comming from experience with the X800 XT, its great for HL2 I can run it at high (aa 4 af 4, all others high) settings and get 100fps average. The x850 doesnt have much over the x800, except in price, really get the 6800GT, its a slightly better card that is build to last (If you dont mind having your PCI card slot taken up underneth the AGP). Wait for the price to drop, or wait till next summer for the next generation cards to come out
