It royally pisses me off when i buy fairly top grade electronics only to find out they do not preform as expected.

most of you know my viewing library, well i bought all new video equipment for Christmas this year. i have a new DVD/VCR combo and a home surround sound system with its own DVD player.. neither plays SVCD's

i had to purchase this today, and try to tie it in with all those other DVD players and make it work.. yeah i got it but man was i pissed.. 3 freaking players :/

anywho's, the moral is, sometimes its not quality that gives you the service you deserve.

i recommend this cheapo player for anyone who collects SVCD's

... Or you could CHECK. They only play them if they say they do, not otherwise. It isn't a standard feature or something like that.

no doubt, but when i bought the other players, the store wouldn't open the box.

before you say it, the last purchase didn't say it either, but the woman was nice and let me read the documentation inside.

i could have looked online, but the store didn't have a connection, and i was to lazy to wait till i got home.

still, its odd the cheaper player has all the perks.

my thoughts?

SVCD = Pir8'ed

funny though, each box clearly says MP3, which can also mean the same thing.

also, SVCD is new, or newer than the other formats so, perhaps they think "if we support it, we support thievery" *shrugs*

a good copy of SVCD, is nearly as spotless as DVD.

DVD is 4.5 gigs per movie. SVCD is 1.4 gigs.

They dont support that it is for the people who want to make a back up of their movies that they already own. Also my DVD player was only 70 bucks plays jpegs mp3's backed up movies and others.

I always get the cheap DVD player (expecially the ones for liek 5$ on black friday )

They seem to wear out a lttle faster though, nothing a little opening up and cleaning the lens can't fix [addsig]

Orph, VCD and SVCDs are sold around the world as a retail product. (Or rather, were sold, before DVD was mainstreamed)

They never made it big here, that's all.

Also, SVCD has noticable compression, so I don't know what you're talking about ... maybe you need thicker glasses

I find that videos with compression look fine on my TV (I have smaller TVs) but they look like crap on my computer. I.E. Star Wars: Phantom Edit. Although that's compressed and it's from a tape source...but it looks fine on my TV, on my computer I can't tell what anything is at all.

crono couldn't make it through the night without some sort of a discrepancy comment

i have a spotlessly clear SVCD of the last resident evil movie..

personally though, i find .avi's on my comp to be the best overall viewing. of the *taboo* variety i mean..DVD is pretty hard to beat, it has far better sound.. could be though, i have a cheap SB card in my comp.

[edit] i know that the "Lisa Simpson" in crono won't let him quit, so i will say uncle first..

Good Night all..

The evening is young (here).

Why in God's name do you need a clear or any copy of Apocalypse? Seriously.

DVD gets bitch slapped by laser disc. Laser disc is uncompressed. So, the only thing that happens is stretching. DVD actually has a lot of compression, but it's at a higher resolution so it makes up for it (or some weird thing like that).

Orph, you need to decipher when I'm arguing and when I'm talking.

good night crono..

XXXOOOXXX

[edit #2]

wanna know the truth? i never consider anything you say as an argument. most times you give a satisfactory impression that you know what you are talking about.

someday however, you will stumble upon something i specialize in.. then we will see how you fare..

seriously though, i have a long day tomorrow.. i must bid you all a fond goodnight.

be good

Why would you need a DVD player that plays Jpegs?

Are we talking major oldschool laser disc...the ones that were the size of vinyls? Those were awesome, in the quirky sense.

Yes. The film quality was only dependent on the stock footage and not the medium it was presented on (not considering the resolution it's at). However, we've surpassed the sound that was on LDs. (Since we have things like DTS now, which actually separates the channels, what a concept)

Orph ... uh ... thanks?
