Well let's get started:

I just want to take a screenshot of a DOS game which starts in fullscreen. I tryed:

PrntScrn, Alt+PrntScrn: Didn't work.

Various screen capture applications: Didn't work (or just a black picture as result).

I can remember that I took screenshots of this DOS game some years ago by runing it in a window - not full screen, but unfortunately I can't remember how I did this. So do you know how to run DOS games in window mode instead of fullscreen?

tia, ding.

Right click the the exe and set to run in windowed mode. Doesnt say exactly that but I know youre smart enough to figure what to click yourself.

You may well have heard of it already, but I use Fraps to take screenshots sometimes. Not sure if that'll work for you or not.

If you can run the game in a window, PrtSc should do, but many games don't like to run in windowed mode. I remember hearing that HyperSnap-DX works with them... I cant remember the URL, so try Google.

http://www.hyperionics.com/

That is the website I think Fraggard was referring to. However $10 for a program that just takes screenshots? Come on......I guess it also includes an image editor....but who the hell needs another image editor? Everyone already has legal/semi-legal versions of those types of programs

EDIT: I too have been looking for a DOS capture utility (or a way to take screens of certain games [edit] so that [/edit] the screenshot [edit] does not come [/edit] out pitch black sometimes with bright pink and other colors mixed in with it.) this will be interesting to find out how...

Where does the file get sent when you take a screenshot of your screen using "print screen".

To your clipboard. Paste it into paint/photoshop, whatever et voila!

Print Screen sends the image to the printer in MS-DOS. Most games have a key to save a screenshot anyway, usually F12 or something. What game are you talking about? [addsig]

That's a CGA game, right? I don't think it's possible to take a screenshot in CGA. Try this - start Windows in safe mode, run your game, press Alt+PrintScreen and paste it into your favourite graphics software.

But beware - running a DOS game in windows without DosBox can really screw up your game, so make a backup first!!! I had to completely reinstall Tyrian 'cause some bozo ran it in Windows. [addsig]
