You could as I have said, get a X800 Pro ViVo and mod it to an XT PE, but the mod isn't always successful and when it fails your card is ruined.

If your talking about a softmod then no, the card won't be ruined as he is just opening up extra pipelines, all he has to do is uninstall the software he is using and install the correct ati drivers.

Is that all?

No, the softmod isn't always succesful on newer cards. Instead of changing the device ID to 40, it goes to 38, which makes it unusuable. The pro default is 39. and XT PE is 40. The card will still work, but the mod wont work and it will decrease performance quite a bit. A few people at XtremeSystems have has this happen to them when softmodding the X800 Pro ViVo.

Can't it be fixed though with the original drivers installed?

It's a BIOS thing when it screws up like that. If you flash the BIOS back to original, the deviceid still remains 38.
