wonder if it's worth it, though

Yup its real, there is a 3rd brand to the world of gfx cards. Wildcats are powerfull AND EXPENSIVE! These cards are mainly used for rendering, In fact I believe this is the same model that was used to render everything in Star Wars Episode 2 (look at its max resolution!). Its really not meant for gameing, its got A LOT of memory, but its not fast enough to persay the 6800 GT's memory.
I tried buying one at one point, but 3D Labs doesnt sell it to you, saying that we dont need that kind of power. Plus there is a large contract/licence.
Here is a card even more powerfull from their web site: http://www.3dlabs.com/products/product.asp?prod=293

You'll pay a hefty premium on this card or have to fill out a stack of forms two feet high.
Somebody buy one of these things for HL2, and tell me how fast it is. [addsig]

Im telling you/everyone here, this card plays games like crap, its meant for rendering models (hence its massive memory), or CG movies (like the final fantasy movie). Its got a lot of RAM, but its slow RAM, meaning its not up to par with other cards.

You use more expensive RAM... It's like the whole GFX card RAM scandal which went on. Turns out most 128mb DDR cards are better than their 256Mb card improvements, mainly because the 256mb cards use crap RAM, whereas the 128Mb cards use good stuff.

Rendering---Large amount of RAM.
Gaming/rendering---a feat that is yet to be accomplished.

Actually, it says it has DDR3, which is the fastest they have on video cards right now I believe. You're right, though- this is for cad/rendering/etc., it's probably next to useless for gaming. If you want to waste a lot of $$ on impossibly powerful graphics cards, just go get yourself a 6800 SLI rig ![]()
