I'm thinking about getting a cordless mouse and keyboard for my non-gaming computer. Does cordless work just as good as those with cords? Are there "visibility" issues, like does the cordless mouse/keyboard need to "see" the case, or does the infrared work well through the desk and metal of the desk?
Right now my mouse/keyboard is about 2 feet away from the case, but the case is below the desk and the desk has metal drawers.

from what i hear, its a gamers nightmare, batteries going dead at bad moments, and unless you have some sort of a charging system, tis not cost effective..
i personally feel the greatest boone to gaming was the opti-mouse, i used to frag so often i bought a new mouse every couple months cause the ball wore out.. that sucked..
i vote, stay away from cordless key's and mouses

I'm using a microsoft cordless Mouse, my mouse is on my desk with the receiver on the tower, under my desk, however, it can be used easily up to 3 metres away.
I disagree Orph, My mouse for example had it 5 months, changed the battery once, it only cost about ?20-30($50) and It is really comfy, 2 button and wheel. we have several recharcgeable ones in our office, they look very ergonomical but awkward buttons.

my info is all second hand.. i only have an opti-mouse, and i dearly love it.

Personally, I quite like having a cord on my mouse, it adds character and it wouldn't be a mouse without a tail now would it? Be more of an armadillo or something. Plus, what are you going to get tangled round your foot then and wonder why every time you move you're mouse, your leg jerks? 
My mate has a Logitech cordless keybord and mouse and he had to change the batterys on the keybord every coupple of days untill he got fed up of doing that and switched back.
I personaly preffer my optical mouse with a cordand I have the cursor dance around the screen when I have had a hair under it or I have spun it round to fast.

20 bucks CDN for a Fujitsu keyboard.
Seamless smooth operation 2 years and counting. I'm going to purchase this combo until brainwave controlled computers come out, or until these products disappear. If anything at least get optical, you'll not want to go back.
[addsig]My mouse costs about 40 quid, chews up 2AA batteries every week (really) and the left mouse button double-clicks like hell (if the mouse double clicks when you shoot it will only fire the first shot, which is a major pain). I have a pile 30 dead batteries on my desk and another 20 in the bin. All in the space of about 6 months
