You are allowed to post fy, aim maps etc Just don't expect everyone to be hyped unless it is something which is great.

you may submit any map you see fit. as long as you understand that it will be judged fairly and by our idea of fun.

personally, i would love to see a well constructed fun map

If the map compiled well and is somehow attractive, just send it in. If it's just a killbox with some props thrown in it, leave it.

I dislike the term "fun maps". This seems to preclude a map with standard gameplay from being fun. It also assumes far too much about what my reaction to said map will be. "Novelty map" and "gimmick map" are far better terms. Even if they sound a little discourteous, they are completely accurate.

Agreed; I've heard the phrase "fun maps" used close to the word "killbox" too many times. Gimmick maps (e.g. Adam H's pacman level) are much better, and you should aim to make one of those- something which is a twist AND is well made.

What exactly does "fun map" mean? Does it imply that it's very ugly but has more tolerable gameplay? Because if it's really fun and it has good aesthetics, it shouldn't just be referred to as a "fun" map. It's simply a good map.

I think he means a map that is a laugh to play but no good for serious gaming (eg. a CS map that doesn't have objectives)

No: No fun maps are allowed. Only very boring, un-fun ones. Sorry. [addsig]

IMO, I think a fun map can be any map...even a killbox. If someone has fun in a map with friends - or even someone they just meet after downloading - then I believe they have the right of free speech to say: "Hey, that was a fun map."

And I think, that if someone wants to post a map they had fun in, then they should be able to.

Just because a map doesn't have great asthectics or even is poorly made - it doesn't automatically earn it a "not fun" map award.

It just makes it an ugly map.

Fine, but that's like saying a paper clip can be fun- I have no right to tell you that it's not, and some people will genuinely find it fun to, er, play with. But there are millions of paper clips in the world- some are pink and bigger and much more fun, some are probably made of solid gold and made by craftsmen- and it doesn't even compare with the fun you can have with a stapler. So why the hell should I waste my time on something so generic and rubbish?

When I contracted chickenpox at the age of two, I was confined by my parents to a room to prevent me from passing it to my younger brother. So for a full two weeks, I spent my days playing with rubber bands. There were different colored ones. New ones and old ones that were about to snap at any moment. Fat ones and skinny ones with unidentifiable organic material stuck on them. I cut them into different lengths and pretended that they were families of snakes.

If you can have fun with a bunch of rubber bands, you can have fun with a killbox--assuming you have the intelligence of a two year old.

You and Lep just crack me up. Didn't your parents know that they should have taken the opportunity to inoculate your brother? It's worse the older you are.

I posted an FY map (though I didn't say it was one), people didn't mind.
