LoL ;D
This is a map editing site, not d-links public forum, but it seems that the General Banter accepts all kinds of questions and broadcasts. If you think you can get any help here, i'd recomend you to tell us more about your internet connection. (Type (Adsl, Cable, etc), Provider, Speed etc)

I'd suggest restarting the modem and the router (at different times) and then if that doesn't work: try refreshing your IP. With wireless though, I've noticed that especially in windows there's a little bit of trouble if you want to manually select your network. Mine always says, "Network available, not connected", so I got to connect to it, yet no networks are listed. It might have something to do with that. You could try restarting your wireless card (just disconnect the network connection through windows then re-enable it)

Those are the most common "fixes". [addsig]

With service pack 2 wireless internet is a breeze, so simple... Sounds like some strange digi box problem maybe? [addsig]

My friend, I am a computer networker by trade. What we do in a case like this is borrow a router from a freind or just get anothyer one temporarily. In order to see what the problem is you have to rule some things out. It seems that the router is the problem since both wired AND wireless modes go down and restarting the router brings it back up.

My advice is to:

  • first reset EVERYTHING, not just with the reset button but completely turn it off for like a minute. then turn everything back on in the order at which it accesses the internet starting with the device closest to the internet, e.g. modem, router, computer. so the modem connects to the net, then the router boots up and sees the net, then the computer gets an IP.
  • If this does not take care of it, turn everything off and do all that over again, this time with the other router. If it works you know it's your router that was bad.
  • if that doesnt work repeat the first suggestion with a different wireless NIC.
  • If that doesn't work then your modem is causing problems.

I would also recommend calling the broadband company's tech support and seeing if they've had any interruptions lately.

Could just be the internet connection, I have a wireless router as well...and if wired and wireless aren't working right the problem lies either on the router (try resetting or updating the firmware) or on the ISP side. In my case, I had the exact same kind of problem, and about 3 days later there were "service upgrades" in my area through the ISP and everything worked fine. It was really odd behaviour, I could get an ip maybe 1/10 renews and even then when it did work it lasted 5 mins - few hours. Don't be too hasty to blame the router.

I've had a lot of similar problems with my D-Link wireless router not connecting to the internet, as well as problems setting up the wireless network. I'd like to say I know how to fix it, but I don't have a f**king clue, and I've tried just about everything except sending it back for another.

I know its not the internet, now. Because ive got the set-top-box straight to the computer now and every things fine!

It's most likely the router!

Personally, I've never had a problem with them, my connection is always on and I always get decent pings in CS.

Contact your service provider and ask them if they have any "manufacturer preference" for networking. For instance, just two days ago I had to buy a new router, purchased a D-Link and couldn't get it to work at all.

Then I contacted Comcast (my provider) and the woman on the other end of the phone told me, flat out, that D-Link routers almost never work with Comcast. Then, without actually recommending one (they are urged not to do such things), she told me that LinkSys works great with them.

Low and behold, I returned the D-Link, got the LinkSys and everything worked flawlessly.

Another tip: Sometimes simply turning off your modem isn't enough. I am told by that Comcast woman that even turning off the cable modem won't reset the signal (or something like that). She said that you have to physically unplug the modem for 15-20 seconds, then plug it back in, then it will "recognize" the new router and begin behaving itself.

Hope our rantings can help you out.
