I saw this on MSN.com's front page.

I was just wondering if anyone knew WHERE these diseases even CAME FROM (did they exist long ago?)? Also, what do you think about this bit of news?

I also know that non-USA ppl say that the news in america sucks balls (it does) but bear with me on this one.

Actually I believe syphilis came from the Native Americans, and was one of the few diseases they introduced onto the Europeans instead of vice versa... [addsig]

Notice the headline said in "developed" nations. Which means out of countries like Canada, Britain, Germany, Australia, etc. We have a higher population and more imigrants so naturally we would have more diseases roaming around. Countries in Africa and southern Asia are the ones that have the highest amount of sexually transmitted diseases. China is plagued with HIV. [addsig]

Actually syphillis has been around for hundreds of centuries. Julius Ceasar had it back in ancient times, long before America was discovered and settled. It makes you nutty, causes your brain to become diseased.

This article seems to be mainly about cervical cancer and AIDS, and doesn't present the actual facts very clearly- I think a direct link to the original journal article would be more helpful!
