BF2!!!1! Man, I love that game. I logged in after the 1.03 upgrade, and got 3 weapon unlocks after they changed the lvel requirements

So I've got the Spec Ops, Assault, Medic and Support upgraded guns.

w00tzizzle.

Whats this, they've actually changed the level requirements to something resembling reason? I haven't played it in a few weeks on account of DOD:Source and final session of uni. I'm at about 4000 points now, so hopefully I'll get an unlock or two.

Yeh they've lowered the points you need to rank up I just think they have lowered them a bit too much for the lower ranks and not enough for the higher ones.

Apart from BF2 I havent played any other games much just Guild Wars really and I only got that last Friday after I replaced my 6200 that I brought on Thursday.

I havent played any HL2 in a while and now that I fancy a game or two I carnt cos of the weard bug with the last update that keeps restarting my pc and its only since I put in the 6200. All the fixes that valve have on the support bit I have tryed and it still dont work.

I wish you could get planes in singleplayer, at least that way you could practice.

If you really want to learn, you can do what I did to get the hang of not crashing. Just start a LAN game on a 64 player map and try different maneuvers. Do stuff like drive a tank into the middle of a field, and try an bomb it or something.

Or alternatively, download a mod that allows you to use the 32 player maps on singleplayer.

Just played some Quake 4. Was quite good, makes me feel ill though, just like when playing Doom 3, Farcry and HL2.

I bought FEAR last night, and played for a few hours. I'm really digging it.

The environments are nice enough, if not a big generic. They win in the 'atmosphere' dept for the most part, being very creepy and all.

The creepy horror element in the game is the best I've seen, and is obviously inspired by Japanese horror films. It works - the game is spooky.

The combat is pretty fun, even though there isn't much variety in who you fight (sofar at least). The A.I. seems fairly intelligent. They navigate complex environments well, don't get stuck or do stupid s**t, don't stand there looking dumb.

The bullet-time effect (although nothing new) feels fresh in this FPS environment. It's fun to turn on Slow-mo and try to headshot all the enemies with dual pistols.

I would definately grab this for you FPS collection. Especially if you like the horror element. This was the kind of scary that Doom3 should have been.

Next stop... Quake 4.

I don't like horror films, so I probably will skip FEAR. The graphics look nice though.

Ok, next stop isn't Quake4...instead I'll give you the scoop on Indigo Prophecy.

This game is a sleeper hit. The closest I've seen to a 'cinematic' experience. It's like playing a game of Clue, or reading a choose-your-own-mystery book, but wrapped in the context of a game. In order to progress, the game asks you to perform simple tasks, and choose the direction of the story.

As the story marches forward, you get to play the part of a few main characters. It's sort of a 'who done it', thriller, occult theme....where you play both sides of the story, trying to unfold the mystery.

My favorite part of the game is the pacing. This isn't like an RPG, where you have to talk to 50 different characters, each one having a dialogue tree 20 pages long. In this game, you do interact with people, but they put you on a timer. You might have 4 ways in which the conversation can go, but you have to pick one before the timer runs out. If you don't pick, the game chooses a default path. Once you've picked a conversation branch, you generally can't go back. This keeps things moving forward, and forces you to think fast.

The game mechanics are fairly intuitive, satisfying, and do a good job of connecting you to the actions that your characters are going through. Sometimes, you are running around looking for clues to the mystery, sometimes you are performing a sort of mini-game that involves your character doing all sorts of stuff (dodging things, boxing, climbing..etc). How well you perfom can either have major or minor reprocussions. If you fail to dodge a flying refrigerator, the game will end. If you fail a game involving your 'intuition', you won't get as many clues as you might have otherwise - making the next sequence a bit more challenging.

I would suggest picking the game up on Playstation 2, if you have a choice. For some reason, it seems to feel best with the playstation controller.

This is one of those games that manages to create a fresh and unique game experience - one that does an interesting job of fusing movies, and games.

Try it!!

There's nothing "Sleeper" about Indigo Prophecy. It's sold out at most retailers. But, if you want an uncut version find the non-US "Fahrenheit". The only difference is a sex scene.

It's a bit linear, but still an awesome game.

I'm looking forward to CoD2, personally, the demo is great: it's CoD with prettier graphics and f**king amazing particle effects. (The dust and smoke looks amazing, even on my aging GF4)

Friend of mine got Shadow and the Colossus yesterday. He wont shut up about it. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
At least Sony can do something right. It seems ICO and SotC are prime examples of what ALL PS2 games should be like, which is just another little added evidence that a new console is not needed. But, whatever. Check it out.

I think I'm going to buy a black japanese import DS for four reasons (Only $10 more through my friendly Game Trader store:)):

Lunar Dragon Song
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Mario and Luigi 2
New Mario Brothers

DROOL!

Is "Indigo Prophecy" anything like Deus Ex? Sounds similar.

No. At least not in control scheme. Download the demo to check it out. It's pretty cool and is only the first scene of the game. And I think scene is the proper way to describe the way the game is set up.

FEAR is a fantastic game; very scary, very tense, with the best combat in the FPS genre by far. The ending came a lot quicker than I expected though.

Since I got home yesterday I've been playing DOD:S practically non-stop.

I really like Anzio, and Flash is pretty fun as an MG camping the side flags. I went like 50-15 doing that one round.

At first I really didn't like DoD:S. I felt like the hit detection was bulls**t. Either that or they really f**ked with the thompson's accuracies. I remember being able to kill 3 people running out of the Axis archway from the far windows (yellow roofless room). Now I'm hard pressed to kill anyone at range with the thompson. I guess that puts it more into the CQB role. But I miss being able to lone ranger it with my trusty thompson.

I guess now that I'm getting used to the new weapon feel, I'm starting to really appreciate the detail and beauty of the maps. They're simply amazing. I never want to map again when I look at them. They frustrate me with their impeccable beauty.

It helps that I get to run on max settings at still get ~45 FPS. /brag

OK, frenchy lets play some!

I've read reviews of Quake 4, and so far it sounds pretty disappointing.

We'll have to wait a bit longer for another game that's on the same level as HL1 and HL2.

I'm playing Indigo Prophecy. Interactive plot-driven cinema games are the future, I say.

The game can be pretty cheesy and the controls suck, but it's a blast and very addicting.

I just bought Shadow of the Collosus as well. Haven't played it yet but really look forward to.

I jut played Quake 4 for a few minutes, and here's my initial impression...

I kinda like it, but I can't help but think my opinion of it is kinda skewed after playing FEAR. In that game, the combat was incredibly tense, unpredictable and exciting, and in Quake 4 the combat amounts to little more than running through corridors and shooting things that run at you. There's no real reason to crouch behind cover, no leaning around corners...it all feels very tactless for a game that puts focus on teams fighting other teams.

It's that very lack of tactical gameplay that makes the whole team-orientated aspect of the game seem very one-dimensional...the only reason you need team mates is because you can't kill all the enemies on screen by yourself; there's no reason to fall back on team mates besides extra firepower, so you can mow down wave after wave of enemy grunt that occasionally side steps and runs at you. Sure, thre are medics, but I didn't feel the need to take advantage of them. It's just kinda boring. After seeing what FEAR could do with squad AI, it all felt very deflated and one dimensional in Q4. It doesn't seem as repetitive as Doom 3's combat system, but it certianly lacks the tension and excitment D3 created sometimes.

Sure it's loud and pretty, but it doesn't have the same emotional bond Doom 3 created (which, like it or loathe it, had a great immersive atmosphere); the combination of silly music, over the top explosions, mindless enemies and all the ripping off of Aliens (as well as the stereotypical baddass marine types...must all commander-types have that same voice? must the black guy always swear? must the non-caucasian marines have a RREEEALLYY strong accent?) really distanced me from what was going on around me; I just didn't care, and had little reason to continue playing other than to see the next good looking set piece.

So, get it because it's loud and pretty; that's about all I can say at this point. Everything else bored me somewhat. Perhaps things pick up later on, but this is what I think so far (I'm still early in the game); not the best first impressions.

I just played and finished an older game, The Greatest Escape. It was actually quite nice as it's a diverse game that focusses mostly on stealth and escaping prison camps, while there's a few combat missions and some frantic driving/escaping scene's going on too.

Visually, it's ok, it does the job but it's not overall stunning. I especially noticed a weak point of detail textures: they don't go well on textures with different materials, and textures with sections that have different directions. Especially noticeable on wood textures.

It has a limited amount of savegames per level and that took some time to find out (wasn't fun the first time I found out I couldn't save anymore) but it's not really hindering either - it actually keeps the game from getting boring and simple. Ok, redoing a certain section over and over again can get frustrating but then again, unlimited savegames would definitely have made this game so much easier and less interesting.

All in all, just a nice game with some really nice aspects and mostly just fun to play. Some annoying things but overall, it was fun. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
