For those with access to a Dollar General store, they have a shipment of PC games in.
I bought "Splinter Cell- Pandora Tomorrow" for $6.00
Might be worth you finding the store, if you want a copy.

Recently been playing Driv3r and I was quite dissaponted as it
feels tomuch like gta to me it good for nost of the missions its just
the getting out of the car and randomly killing someone and then car
jacking someone else.
I have also been playing Act of War: Direct Action and I really like it its a good substitute to C&C as I highly doubt that the will be any more of them and if there is they wont be to as high standard what with most of the Weatwood team leaving. But anyway Act of war has a good strong storyline that im quite surprised hasnt caused contraversity what with the attacts on main land US it has in it and all the securing of oil refinerys you have to do.

I bought Doom 3 and Call Of Duty:Deluxe (thats plus the expansion) yesterday.
I crapped my pants at Doom 3, period.
I've played Call Of Duty before with a friends copy, but I wanted to own the game myself. Solid gameplay.

Well the UK is finally getting some interesting releases over the past/coming weeks...
Last week: We Love Katamari
My flatmate picked up a copy of this, and I will do, but there are other games on my list that take precedence. Although it came out last week the deliveries to sunny Dundee only arrived yesterday it seems, so I've not really played it much. Unfortunately the first game never made it out here but they have rectified the matter by briging out this sequel, and thank god they did. Ultra-crazy game that is almost painfully charming - disliking this game is seriously impossible. The soundtrack is so happy and cheesy that getting a smile on your face is a given every time you hear "Katamari Damacy!". The gameplay is the perfect pick up and play example, and though the Katamari isn't all that easy to manouvere, it's nothing to do with overly complex controls. Great game and one of the most imaginative of the past few years. Glorious
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
This week: Psychonauts
Woohoo, after countless little delays (it kept getting pushed back a month or two at a time) it has finally hit the UK. Good platforming gameplay but that isn't really the appeal of this game, which I'm sure more people bought for its humour value. By Tim Schafer, the guy behind Grim Fandango, Psychonauts is full to the brim of witty dialog and charming characters. For people who like collectibles in games, this is perfect too, as there is plenty to explore and collect in order to reach the top rank and earn all your Psychonaut merit badges. Awesomeness.
Next week: Shadow of the Colossus
Another delayed one, I think little needs to be said. The Ico team, beautiful visuals, giant monsters you have to climb to kill. What more do you want to be honest? I can't say it appeals quite as much as Ico did to me, but I'm definately getting it nonetheless.
Week after: Project Zero 3: The Tormented
Project Zero is the king of Survival Horror games in my opinion - one of the few that genuinely scare the s**t out of me on a regular basis. I've heard this one relies a bit on the game mechanics established by the previous games, but ups the difficulty (the second game was a bit easy) and has a great storyline. If you like your survival horror without rocket launchers and machine guns, and find the idea of being chased by dozens of unique ghosts with their own stories intriguing, the Project Zero (Fatal Frame in the US) series is for you. Fingers crossed this one holds up.

The only thing I have left in Katamari Damacy is the journey to
1,000,000 roses, and I don't konw if I'll do that... seems way too
tedious.
I really should pick up Pyschonauts... which platform should I go for? PC or PS2?

It's ideally a controller game rather than a keyboard game, so I would normally say PS2. On the other hand, if you have a controller for your PC, you might be better off going that route to ensure nice smooth framerates and better graphics. I got it for the Xbox, so can't really comment on either of the other two

Thanks ReNo. I loved Grim Fandango's style so I really should try
to pick this game up (or give it a rent at least) for PS2. I
don't have a controller for my PC.

I was a huge fan of Ico, and I had some great expectations for this game, and in all honesty, it is probably one of the single best gaming experiences I have had in a loooong time. I'm not sure what it was about the game, but it really does draw you in. Theres not much storyline (the opening credits/cutscene plus about a 2 minute clip somewhere after one of the bosses, one little clip before the final colossus, plus the long ending is pretty much it). In my opinion, it blows Ico out of the water.
But it flows so well- and defeating the colossi is just such a weirdly rewarding experience. I can't really explain it, but it just feels so good to take down one of the giants. Each time you defeat one, you're told where the next giant is, and that's about all. The rest of it is just you traveling around with your horse exploring.
Plus, the world it takes place in is simply gorgeous. I can remember several times when I would just wander around trying to find fruit and lizards (increase health-bar and stamina guage) just to take in some of the sights.
Very impressive. I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Fighting the fourth (or maybe it was the fifth) colossus in the cistern
was probably the single most amazing gaming experience I've ever had.
Yeah. Seriously.

Awww s**t. I just managed to snag myself an Xbox 360 (well, I won one on Ebay, so hopefully it's not some would be scammer!), so I don't think I'll be able to afford a copy for a while now
" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> I'll try and convince my flatmate to pick up a copy and play that in the mean time
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">
On the other hand, it means I can play PGR3, which is something I've been wanting to do since...well...PGR2!

Hmm, so that Xbox 360 I won seemed to be a scam, though thankfully I hadn't paid anything. It might not have been, but due to the fact that the guy was "no longer a registered memeber of Ebay" when I went to pay him the next day, I decided to pull out of the deal! I've never had any trouble in any of my dealings on Ebay before, but I guess Xbox 360's are the current "hot thing", and so the most obvious things for scammers to try and target. I'm keeping my eyes open for other deals, but I doubt I'll come across one as good as the one I pulled out of.
Anyhow, I picked up Shadow of the Colossus since it was released today, and I'm super glad I did. It's pretty much just a collection of the most awesome boss battles that computer games have ever seen. A few niggles aside - horrible framerate at times (and I hear the PAL version has IMPROVED them; how bad was the NTSC one?!), the PS2's exceptionally poor texture filtering making most textures completely unrecognisable at any sort of skewed angle, the misbehaving camera - it is one hell of a game and an obvious contender for game of the year. Bit easy and short though; after today's sessions I've killed the first 10 colossi, and most, once you figure out the trick to mounting it, fall with ease. I also wish the journeying between colossi featured more Ico esque platforming/puzzling - it hints that it is going to at times but seems reluctant to really follow it through, probably afraid it will detract from the core ideal of killing really huge monsters I guess!

I had lent out Resident Evil 4 to a friend. He played through the
game twice before I managed to get it back, and I decided to give it
another shot.
I enjoyed it a lot more this time around, only because I let go of all my expectations for the game in the context of the Resident Evil series. I forgot about Racoon City and all the previous games I've played and loved (RE1, RE2, RE3, RE:Code Veronica) and treated this as a standalone game.
All the new changes that the developers have added have caused this game to be more about killing the enemies than simply evading or surviving, so once I tried to enjoy that aspect my overall enjoyment increased.
The storyline is still ridiculous and the dialogue terrible -- but I could ignore it and the visuals made up for it all.
Overall -- I liked the game much more once I treated it as an action shoot-em up rather than a survival horror game.

Yeah, it's kinda moved away from those roots. The best part of the game remains the early part in my opinion, with the village and mine probably being the the best moments. Reason being that you aren't so ludicrously overpowered at that point - fending off the hoardes with a pistol and limited ammo is far more exciting.
Project Zero 3 (Fatal Frame 3 in some places) hit the shops today, so as a fan of the series I picked it up. AtM, if you are looking for survival horror you should look into it. I played it for a few hours tonight, and so far my thoughts...
- It's (at least initially) harder than both of the others, but my experience with the series means that doesn't really mean much this early on.
- Not as scary, but again, most likely due to my experience. They still get me every now and then with some sneaky scare tactics. VERY sneaky when you think about how they scared you afterwards too - those guys know the tricks!
- Best story so far, and it ties together the first two games and more quite nicely. In the second game there was the slightest of links, but this one is teeming with them.
- Very inspired by Silent Hill 4: The Room.
- They've made the ghosts appear far more "solid" when really close to you, but still plenty ethereal when distant. This makes for some awesome up close shots.
- Entire game system is still in its archaic form - fixed point camera angles are really beginning to grate now and controls aren't wonderful.
All in all, it's probably the best in the series judging by the first few hours. My only concern is that the series isn't developing in terms of gameplay; it's just becoming more refined in terms of storytelling and presentation. The camera based combat system is still pretty exciting though
GAME also had a deal on preowned titles - selected titles at 2 for ?5 - so I picked up Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter for the Xbox, and Extreme-G Racing Association for PS2. Not that I hugely cared about either, but at 2 for ?5 you might as well! Unfortunately when I got home I found that XGRA actually had the XG3 disk and manual inside...which sucked considering I already own XG3 for the Gamecube
Back to the shop it goes to be replaced by...who knows.

Ah
ReNo, I just saw your post a few up and I'm sorry about that 360, but I'm really glad you got to pick up
SotC. There's plenty of replayability in that game too, with hard
mode and time attack once you get all the way through.
Also -- I hope I didn't build up your expectation of the first flying colossus too much, but what did you think?
One more thing: You didn't mention what you thought of the music. I personally loved the way it transitioned to fit with what you were doing... it completed the cinematic feel of the game. For some reason I felt like the battle with the collosus at the geyser flats was something straight out of a movie like Lord of the Rings.

First flying colossus was awesome, I loved it
A few of the others were a bit poor, but nothing horrendous. The wall climbing one for instance, was just far too straightforward, and the first of the tiny colossi (the fire cave one) was a let down in terms of size considerations alone. The sand one in the cave that chases you on your horse was also pretty weak. Any of them would be fair boss fights in any other game, but they just didn't live up to the more epic battles in SoTC. The ending removes any negative thoughts you might have about the game though - awesome.
Soundtrack was excellent from start to finish, though at times the transition between the normal music while fighting a colossus and the music when you mount the thing could have been a LOT less jarring. Not enough to ruin the experience or anything, it just wasn't anywhere near as seamless in some fights as it was in others.

Yeah --- the smaller colossi weren't as awe-inspiring... but I enjoyed figuring out how to kill them regardless.
That's one of the things I loved about the game... its the best disguised puzzle game I've ever played

Also -- this game was made to be watched by friends. The "oh s**t!" moments are just that much better when you're in a room with 3 or 4 other friends.
Thanks for the heads up about the Fatal Frame games. Next time I'm in the video store I'll see if I can rent it.

I don't know which one to recommend, as while the third one might contain some spoilers for the earlier games, it's probably the best one of the bunch and as such having it as your first one might make the experience better still. You'll be able to pick up the first game ridicu-cheap by now as it's been out for ages, and the second game is bargain price over here too, so if you do find you enjoy the games then it won't cost you an arm and a leg to pick up the first two installments.
If you have an Xbox or access to an Xbox you might consider playing the first two games on that, as it got the directors cut versions with extra endings, new difficulties, new unlockable modes/minigames (mission mode, survival mode, FPS mode, etc...), extra ghosts, and more. The third one is the only one I've played on the PS2 and thats only because it's just out and no port has been announced AFAIK, but it doesn't seem to be any worse in terms of frame rate or graphics really, so it's probably just the extras that set the Xbox versions apart.
EDIT: The Xbox games seemed far quicker to save than the PS2 version, which takes fair while. Also, this third game only lets you save 16 photos compared to the 100 photos of the first two games - not too sure if it's a change in the game, or if the PS2 could only save 16 in the first two games as well. Not that it really matters

I've weanted to pick up the Fatal Frame games, but they just dissapear. Three is already hard to find, and if you do find it, it's used.
Recently Tried to Play:
Act of War = Good
Turok Evolution (for PC) = Worse than the console versions
Rainbow Six Lockdown (for PC) = TERRIBLE. I'd rather play three in a heartbeat.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.
