I've completed the GC version a couple of times, but the unlockables you get aren't the same ones you get in the PS2 version. Operation Ada takes about 10 minutes to complete on the GC version, and the same on the PS2 version I'm sure, but in addition it has the "seperate ways" side quest which lets you do play Ada what is doing during the main storyline. You also get an energy weapon in the PS2 version that you don't get in the GC version, and MORE costumes besides the additional GC versions.

AtM, shame you don't enjoy it man, but you are one of the few. Most people seem to agree that while a bit of a departure from the original RE games, it is a marked improvement overall and one of the best action games ever. Overly linear perhaps, and not as scary perhaps, but still an improvement.

What's stranged is I positively loved RE1, RE2, and RE3. I have a tradition with a good friend of mine where the two of us play through the games together in the pitch dark all night. I'm going to see him in less than 2 weeks and we'll continue it with RE4... I wonder how he will react to the game.

I think I just miss the traditional zombies... and all the weapon choices are overwhelming.

Well I'm pretty pissed.

After almost 2 weeks of waiting, ICO finally came in the mail. And guess what? For the first time ever I'm getting Disk Read Errors. I've done some research and I learned its because ICO is so old it uses a blue bottom CD. I wish I knew this game would have been unplayable before I shelled out the clams for it (and waited so anxiously for it to arrive).

So basically I'm hating my PS2 right now.

RRrrrrrRrGHH!

Blue discs has nothing to do with the games age. It has to do with the type of disc. It holds less space, it isn't a DVD.

And, if you had your receipt still you could get a replacement. Because there's a class action law suit against Sony since they claim, "you should never get disc read errors".

But it's the PS2, not the game. Try sitting it horizontally :P

Sometime last week, I picked up 007: Everything or Nothing and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quest for $20 <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I should stop spending money.

Reorienting the PS2 didn't do anything, unfortunately.

I heard rumors that some finagling with scotch tape on the label side of the CD could make the disk thicker and easier to read? I dunno ...

Its on the under side that you put the tape (masking tape works good), in the middle where there is no data. Just put three or four small pieces in between the hole and the little ridge before the data begins. On all the discs I've tried this on it's worked. It works for both blue discs and PS1 discs that won't read. I remember this pissed me off, after only a few months of having a PS2 some discs wouldn't read anymore. And it also seems that having the PS2 horizontal works better.

=o

Horizontal = Flat. The "side" of the older PS2 isn't flat, you need a stand to make it that way (stupid).

As for problems with PSX games on PS2 ... it's usually an emulation issue ... not all PSX games work on PS2.

I found (happily) that ripped DVDs work on PS2 <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I remember the day I brought my (first) PS2 home. I rented some crappy games (SSX and XSquad .. or something) and I enjoyed them ... then I tried using the PS2 again that night. It didn't work.
The piece of garbage broke the day I bought it!

I called the place I bought it from (Target) and explained the ordeal, they gave me permission to open it up and get the game out, since it was a rental, and I would get a PS2 from the next shipment. Needless to say, I was pissed I had to wait another month. (I had to buy some electronics Phillips head bits too. They're pretty tiny)

I plan on pimping my PS2 out sometime though. I'm tired of buying games and finding out they blow ass about half way through. That and ... disc read errors wouldn't matter if you had a HDD to put them on <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> (How you'd get them on that HDD is another matter however.)

Yes, I felt like sharing that story. You read it and you can't unread it!!

Thanks BvS... I'll give it a shot.

Edit: It took 2 tries, but I got it to work! Thank you so much! I'm really happy that I finally get to play this game!

Yeah, if you're having that problem get in on that Class Action.

Mine's just slow now, it takes a lot longer to read discs than it used to (Mine was about 2 months after release date). I might open it and clean the laser, but I don't know exactly how successful that will be.

SSX was a great game, I just recently bought SSX3 for Xbox, and have the first two on PS2. It feels like such a gyp when I get a new PS2 game to find it's a Blue (CD) game. Like Taiko...they could have maxed the game with a ton of songs or something, but no, it's CD and has limited songs..lame. Even keeping all the songs from the Japanese versions (There are like 6 versions) would have been wicked. But the American market always gets watered down crud.

My hall has been addicted to Mario Kart 64 for the entire year, so recently we decided to pool our money and buy a new gamecube, 4 controllers, and a used copy of Double Dash. It came last Thursday, and we've played it a lot since then. It's really different from the 64 version, and we're kind of split on the versions we prefer. Personally, I like the 64 version better, because the controls feel tighter, and the courses seem better designed, although both are fun.

IMO N64 and SNES are the best consoles ever. Nothing else matches 'em in terms of good ol' fun.

NES, SNES and Gamecube have been the most "Fun". But I've had great times with some games on pretty well all consoles. Still trying to find a Sega Genesis v2 + SegaCD to add to my collection.

As for Mario Kart, I just bought the DS version, it's been pretty good so far, I like the fact that they added a whole set of retro cups. I only own this iteration, but have played the others for many hours, my favourite by far is the original on SNES though.

SNES/GC/Xbox for me. Anyways.

I've been playing Soldat lately 'cause I don't have much in the way of good games that would actually cost money. Good stuff, though the bots are rather noobish even on "Impossible" (once you get used to it, anyway) It's great fun killing 4 hiding out in a bunker with a well-placed LAW, though, and I cackle every time.

I bought COD 2 on the weekend and its brilliant. It's taken all the good bits of the first game and added a whole bunch of new stuff which increases the goodness significantly. It's realy intense, with just enough of a break to let you recover slightly before piling it on again. There are some great references to Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, but not in the form of direct copies like in the earlier games, but rather the similar situation or type of action. There's a few moments when you've turned a German attack and their running for the hills, or for cover, and you open up on them with a garand, shooting them in the back using the old iron sights like in BoB. The whole one 'accurate' shot kill makes the semi-auto rifles a blast.

The new damage system is interesting. There is no health bar or health pickups. You can only take a certain amount of sustained damage. You can take a lot as long as its not in one short period of time, also allowing you to recover by taking some time out. Of course with the frantic nature of the gameplay there isn't often time to take a break.

The free choice in objective order and also the option of choosing different paths, which result in different enemy numbers, is cool. However a lot of times I couldn't find a noticeable difference. When I replay it from the start I'll try a completely different route.

The battlechatter is useful, like when the enemy is attacking from various sides, calling out 'enemy coming from the south' or whatever. It bumps up the realism significantly, making it that much more intense whenever your men start yelling about a tank or mg.

All round a fan-f**king-tastic game, easily on par or better than the original and expansion. Well worth the money if you aren't sick of totally awesome WW2 action <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">.

I've heard that CoD 2 was just an exact repeat of CoD 1. I've yet to try the demo though...

I just dug out my old Ghost Recon Gold Edition CD pack, I'd almost forgotten how great those games are (GR and expansions).

I haven't played the full game yet, but the portion that's in the demo isn't in CoD1 at all.

I strolled through Fred Meyers the other day, found a nice new ... clearance ... copy of Katamari Damacy. I only had to shell out $1.99 for it <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> (Got a gift certificate from my moms work for $15)

I'm still trying to figure out how to get into Co-Op mode ... Maybe I'm thinking of We Love Katamari.

My brother brought me the expansion for Painkiller, it's some pretty intense s**t. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> 40 guys at the same time didn't even blow up my computer, which is cool since all the graphical settings were at the highest (discluding resolution). AND there's a flamethrower, AND a 5-barreled stakegun... le sigh.

Went home for thanksgiving break and managed to spend some more time playing Rome: Total War. I'd like to fully endorse this game now. Great great fun.

I rented Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2, and MGS3:Snake Eater.

Outbreak was alright, it wasn't too much fun offline, and the load times were annoying.

MGS3 was a mixed bag. I absolutely love the realism elements (eating, treating wounds, combat, camo) and the detail and the graphics and sound were all top notch. What I didn't like was the supernatural elements that seem to be getting more and more over the top with each game. It just seems childish. I much prefer sneaking around / fighting the common soldiers to the zany and impossible boss battles.

I'm scared s**tless after playing the first 2 missions of F.E.A.R. It's just sooooo scary. Stuff pops up all of a sudden and scares the hell outa you. On top of all this, it's got an interesting story (from what has been revealed so far) and it's an incredibly good shooter. There's a melee attack taht has a lot of options too, like if you're just standing, he buts with his gun. If you run and jump, then he does some cool kicking thing.

Its just great and suspenseful. Play it now!

I've been playing Call of Duty 2. Great game, it follows on from the original well. Unfortunately, if I try putting it in DX9 mode, text is garbled. Apart from that, nothing really sticks out as being a major issue. I like the new health system too.
