Ahhh, I'm so scared. Played a lot more F.E.A.R and it's so friekin scary. Out of nowhere the guy walking infront of you just disintegrates and that girl starts walking at you.... ahhhh!

The AI in it is unmatched in any game. They take these really tactical moves against you, like circling your hiding spot at coming at you from all ways. Man, great great game!

I wonder what structure they used for the AI. What agents, I should say.

After playing the demo of it before it came out, I'd always meant to pick up kill.switch. It's an action game that was rather praised for its use of cover - you don't stand much of a chance running into enemy filled rooms in this game, so you have to sidle up to pillars or behind overturned tables to protect yourself. This is done in a very explicit way, in that you actually press a button to "take cover" which locks you onto the surface. Once you've done this you can slide along it and peek around the edges, or over the top, and shoot while still mostly in cover, or alternatively keep yourself in cover entirely and sacrifice accuracy for complete protection (blindfire). It's kinda like a third person, non-lightgun version of the Time Crisis games, and for the most part it was enjoyable if rather repetitive. The worst part about the game was that just as you feel you are getting into it story wise, it just ends. It was completely surreal for me, I had absolutely NO idea I was on the end boss when I killed him, and when the credits roled I was completely taken aback. Normally, when such a scenario sneeks up on you you do have some feeling that it could be the end, but it just wasn't the case here whatsoever. After only 3 and a half hours I was really left wanting

Also picked up Resident Evil: Outbreak - seeing as I own almost all the Resident Evil games I figured I might as well try and collect the whole lot. My expectations weren't too high here as I knew it was meant to be an online game, and since they removed the online functionality from the UK release it was bound to be left a little unsatisfying. Initial reactions were actually pleasantly surprising though; it had a great intro that referenced the events of Resident Evil 2 and set the scene nicely, and the prescence of friendly characters, even if they were driven by rather poor AI, was a nice change that helped the atmosphere a lot. The first level was a pretty intense and stressful escape from ever chasing zombie hoardes, and the want to keep your allies safe added a bit more to the normal "just survive" gameplay. Unfortunately insane load times (10-15 seconds PER ROOM for god's sake!), dumb AI, and the ever taunting existance of the vastly superior Resident Evil 4 really detracts from this game in the long run. The second chapter really misses the intensity of the first by placing you in some stupid scenario (no joke, it's introduction says "After escaping the streets of Raccoon City, we found ourselves in an underground frozen research facility" - WTF?! How?!?!?!), removing the immediate threat (ie. you are no longer being chased), destroying the pacing, and using dull and repetitive environments. At the moment I'm stuck on the boss of this chapter, and whether or not I'll bother trying to get past it again is quite the question, more due to the unacceptable load times than anything else.

I've been compiling a list of games I've played into an excel spreadsheet lately. Initially it was just a list of games I own, but then I started putting in others that belonged to my flatmate that I had completed, or ones I'd traded in or borrowed over the years. It's grow beyond all my expectations and now consists of around 250 games; those I own, have owned, or have played for some significant period. Marking them as completed or not has proven quite interesting, and by having genres marked I can see what systems I use for what genres most often. I'm not going back to the Amiga/Mega Drive/SNES days or earlier, as then it becomes quite ridiculous, but from the PS1/N64/Saturn days forward.

You should see the spreadsheet I started compiling before taking inventory of my games, I finally borrowed my girlfriend's dig. camera so I can take a picture of my collection and I'll post a few shots here. There are just too many games I've played to list.

The sudden ending you talk about reminds me of when I played Zone of Enders once, I rented it when it came out, and the end of the game just sort of happened, it was like a non-interactive last boss battle practically and then as I'm watching the cutscenes for something cool to happen the credits roll, it was pretty weak.

Picked up F.E.A.R. today seeing as it was only ?20 in Game at the moment, and I'm really glad I did. I enjoyed the demo and the full game is as expected. The environments repeat a tad more than I'd like but while the level design is a bit bland, it often makes for incredible firefights. The enemy AI is quite remarkable and brings about some really unpredictable and exciting battles. Initially I found the game far too simple, as on hard mode I was stocked up with 10 healthkits at almost all times and only died a couple of times, but the difficulty ramped up quite dramatically and some segments have been pretty tough. Though the levels feel quite blocky, the particles and visual effects more than make up for it in my opinion. Rarely do firefights looks so god damned gorgeous. It doesn't throw its fantastic features in your face either - limbs can fly and bodies can be gibbed, but they happen rarely enough for it to be a special thing when it happens. Watching an enemy's arm flying off, spraying gun still in hand, while leaning and running in slow-mo is an awesome experience indeed.

I started playing CoD 2 bcause my dad bought it, and it lags. It's all jittery, and I double the system requirements... what the heck?

Turn down the settings a bit.

it's mainly the DX9 rendering. if you switch it over to 7 you'll get a HUGE performance boost. Basically, you don't get a lot of the prettier shader effects and bloom. but that's a really solid game.

I was rather dissapointed with some of the LD in FEAR, and liked other parts of it, but overall felt it could have been a lot prettier. The gameplay is pretty solid though.

Lately I've been playing a LOT of Colin McRae 2005. WOOOW. Probably the best racing game I've ever played.

Going through JK2:Outcast... again. I think this is the .. maybe 5th time through? Second time on Jedi Master. Easily my favorite SW game of all time.

I think that's all I've been playing of late, though I did go on a Civ2 binge a while ago. hehe. <3 Civ2

CoD 2 is pretty darned good, though the first is still the best. I found the ending of CoD 2 to be a let down, really standard and seemed tacked on. Enjoy the Russian missions while they last because they are some of the funnest, the british tank missions are fairly easy, but fun, and the point du hoc mission is really intense.

Played StarWars: Battlefront 2 on the PS2 the other day with some mates and it was pretty good. I'll be getting the PC version for christmas, which should be fun online.

I'm glad you said FEAR is good Reno, cause I've been hanging on the edge trying to decide whether or not to get it. They have it for $20 off at EB Games so I might pick it up.

I'm sorry, I thought battlefront one and two were and are complete pieces of s**t.
They're so poorly made. I'd take republic commando or jedi academy over either any day. (Respectivly SP and MP)

Reno: I've turned the settings to the lowest, and it still jerks. I've tried turning down my Hardware Acceleration, because that worked for Age of Mythology, but it did nothing.

Belgarion: How might I switch to 7? I'm really desperate.

I completely agree with you Belgarion, CoD 2 is a great game. I like the humour in the russian campaign ("Why are we using potatoes instead of grenades?" "Because real grenades are worth much more than you!"). The british campaign does get really good in parts, when theres 40 or so German soldiers swarming down a hill at you. I'm surprised how well the game actually ran in that part.

To switch to DX7 mode, you should be able to go into the video options and just click an option, anything related to Direct3D mode or something. I had to play in 7 because I got garbled text when switching to 9.

Got FEAR a couple of weeks ago along with a long overdue PC upgrade and haven't been finding it much fun to be honest. Nowhere near as good as the reviews would suggest. I've not touched it for about a week cos I kept dying on the easy setting. Every time I jump out of the helicopter and try to run for cover, they slaughered me so I gave up.

Burnout 4 has been commanding a fair bit of my time though. Still waaay too fast, but at least you are allowed to run everything else off the road!

They delayed Psychonauts AGAIN! Argh!! This is getting ridiculous, new release date is apparently 3rd of February according to Play.com, but I haven't seen any other date thrown around. I'm fearing it's never going to get released over here <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

Someone at the pit should buy it for you and then ship it over as a Christmas present.

Or, since it isn't released in your country yet you could just ... obtain it. Then IF it does come out, buy it.

Nothing stopping you from getting another countries version.

Or you could stop bitching and buy it online from somewhere else. :P

? quoting French Toast
I just dug out my old Ghost Recon Gold Edition CD pack, I'd almost forgotten how great those games are (GR and expansions).

You know, I was thinking the same thing- I was gunna replay Ghost Recon and Operation Flashpoint again, and with my PC spec now compared to the spec back then (Athlon 700mhz with Geforce 2!) I should be able to run everything on insane graphics options and still have perfectly smooth gameplay!

Don't suppose you guys think Ghost Recon will run on my 1.6Ghz Pentium M with annoying 64mb shared video memory :-/ and 512mb ram? Guild Wars just about ran on lowest settings- which suprised me.

I don't want it for the PC though, I want the Xbox version. Not a fan of playing platformer type games on the PC you see. I am considering picking up an Xbox 360 controller to use for my PC since they are compatible, and then I'd consider importing a PC version. My Xbox isn't chipped so I can't play imports on it.

Easily, I'd say. It's not a very graphic intense game, but the gameplay is to die for. By the way, anyone seen the trailers for number 3? Beeeaauutiful stuff.

I haven't seen anything relating to that in the video options. Man, this is pissing me off.

Okay, I found it! It was called like "Render mode" or something, and not being in the tech-know-how I didn't realize what was going on.

Anyways it runs beautifully now. I've just finished the first segment of the first British level in Africa. It's seriously intense sometimes. That first Brit level is just mayhem, jerries everywhere and man... crazy. I'm glad that they have that weird health system or I'd be quite dead.

The last Russian mission where you retake Stalingrad has some wicked firefights as well.

I've also found the smoke grenade to be incredibly useful, especially in that first Brit mission, I was smokin like a mad man.

I'm also a big fan of the multiple objectives thing, where you have to complete A B and C but you can go any which way and do it in any order you want. That allows a bit more re-play-ability and adds some thought to how you play.

All in all, great game so far. Classic CoD action that I've come to know and love. (I just realized that I've played CoD 1 about 5 times and I'm halfway through my 6th. I hope I can do the same with this game.)
