With all the updates that have come out recently for CS:S, and me being home for the holidays with my desktop computer, I've been playing it a lot the past day or so.

They've brought in de_nuke, two new player models, but my favorite addition is that when not in use, the primary weapon is slung across your back, and your pistol is in its holder. These aesthetic touches compliment the grenades nicely.

It's also nice to see that after not playing CS:S for months, I can still do really well against pub players. It goes to show that while my aiming is a little rusty, being able to play smart and outthink opponents counts for so much.

And nothing beats being the last one alive and killing five opponents in a row to win the round.

Well not to long ago I went back for some Nostalgia and played Blast Corps, which was, in my opinion, one of the games that you had to have if you had an N64. Over the last to days, I cracked open my Dreamcast and started playing Toy Commander, which was another game, in my opinion, that you had to have if you had a Dreamcast.

I've actually had a complete urge to play Blast Corps recently, to the extent that I've been looking on Ebay for an old N64 to add to my collection. It was such a novel game and I've not seen anything like it since. One of the underappreciated classics of gaming history <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Alright. Just finished CoD 2. It's an amazing game. Still don't quite understand how the health system works, but enjoy it for it's originality nonetheless.

I'm just starting to install Battlefront 2. I loved the first one, hopefully this one won't let me down.

I'm busy playing through Max Payne 2. (Picked it up as a budget title couple of weeks ago). Bullet-time effect still amazes me. I sometimes quickload just to clear the room in a more ... stylish way. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

If you liked bullet-time in Max Payne, you should REALLY play FEAR. They do it better than anyone... I'm playing this game through a second time, immidiately after finishing it, and I usually have a hard time finishing games.

FEAR is really incredible for visual effects. It's not the most jaw droppingly gorgeous game in general, but I've never seen a game make the actual combat so gloriously beautiful. The sharpening effect of the slowmo, the over the top yet effective displacement mapping of the bullet decals, the crazy amount of sparks and other particle effects, the bullet trails, the perfectly balanced amount of body gibbing/detachable limbs, the stuntman physics creating some great death animations, the...

Really, it's a wonderful experience. Play it people...play it <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

DoD:S has been sucking me in again. I love the new map they released... in fact, it has made me realize how much fun the co-op capture point maps are.

Indeed. That's why it was such a good LAN game, because it forced you to work as a team. I've had some mighty good matches on DoD.

Got FEAR for Christmas and am having a ball. It's awesome going bullet time with dual pistols or the shotgun, or cycle kicking bad guys in the head. The level design and layouts aren't exactly inspired, but there is a real freaky mood created throughout the game. I loved the tiles falling of the wall at the start. In fact I might play some now <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">.

Oh and those who play BF2 will notice some significant improvements to various weapons since the latest patch. The m95 can no in fact kill with one shot, and the anti-tank rockets have some guidance abilities. Of course EA has decided that in order to boost sales of the Special Forces expansion they have allowed SF weapons into ordinary BF2, but only for those with the expansion. I've found this gives them a huge advantage with the more accurate and powerful weapons.

Ugh... when marketing and game design collide, bad things happen.

Lep seems to be trapped in a warp of games atm- hence the lack of his presence (budum-chish!)

Hes playing Quake 4, WoW as usual, and also the game "The Movies", which seems to be kinda like Sim 2, but you control the complex for a movie studio, and you can even direct your own films (to a certain extent) and get to watch them. They tend to be very short clips though.

I was given Need for Speed: Most Wanted for Christmas on the Xbox, and it's much as I expected it to be. There have been quite a few improvements over NFS:U2, including a far nicer (and daytime, woo!) city, more identifiable roads and less mazey layouts (making it far easier to figure out which roads lead where), the ability to just jump straight into races rather than drive miles and miles to get there (though the ability to cruise around and hunt down races is still there), shops that sell all types of equipment (no more need to trek miles across the city to buy new headlights or whatever after an engine tune), and of course the police being ever present makes proceedings vastly more entertaining.

I wasn't too sure how they would bring the whole thing together after playing the demo, which seperated the police from the racing entirely and everything was in self-contained segments, but it's actually handled fairly nicely. When you finish a race you just return straight to free-roam mode from wherever the race ended, and the other racers will do exactly the same, which makes things feel far more consistant. The police may have caught wind of your racing (you head their radio chatter which gives you a bit of a head-start) in which case you might find yourself with a bit of company if you hang around, but it's also quite possible to simply speed past a police car and instigate a chase, or drive through a speed-trap, or start ramming civilian cars to do the same. Or boost past the police station perhaps <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> The point of the game is to gain reputation both through racing and by being wanted by the police, so you need to do a bit of both to progress. I've yet to have police turn up during a race for me but since races give a likelihood of police presence I figure it's probably possible.

Anyway, people who hated NFS:U2 aren't necessarily going to be won over by this one, but it certainly improves upon it's predecessor.

Fear did absolutely nothing for me. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> I don't know if I'll ever go back to playing it to finish it off. Combat to me just felt really flimsy... I hear raving about how powerful the weapons feel and sound but to me they all feel like pea shooters... there's all of one enemy in the game for the first I don't know how many levels, and the scare tactics are on par with an online flash trick - ooh, a frame of a scary face, aah!

Not to say I think it's a bad game, but coming from someone who has loved Monolith's past efforts, I don't think it holds up to what they did with NOLF.

Otherwise most of my time is spent on the 360, though I did just spend a big chunk of time the other day playing through about 30% of the first Jak. Finished all the bronze championships on project gotham overnight on christmas waiting for the baby to sleep (which of course didn't happen :P ), and just snagged Kong and Condemned yesterday. Kong on the 360 is really impressive; the updated content really makes the transition to the new system worthwhile - it's no gears of war or anything, but it had a great style to begin with and there are times at the start of a level where I forget I can start moving already. Game looks like an awesomely stylized painting sometimes. Definitely the most impressive cinematic-style game I've ever played. The first person chunks work surprisingly well for having no hud or crosshair, and the combat mechanic of highly limited bullets and scavenging spears and bones for melee weapons kicks ass. Using fire to progress or clear paths also is pretty fun. Achievement design was clearly a tack-on, unfortunately, but there's also some in-game stat recording that unlocks stuff and rumor is the game even has an alternate ending if you reach a certain point total.

I got the AoE III Collector's, it's a giant crate of goodies, and was only like $5 more than the regular game.

I also got Myst IV and URU as well as Burnout: Revenge and KotOR II for Xbox on boxing day.

AoE III

I haven't played much, but I like what I see. If you've liked the other games, then this is definitely worth picking up.

Fun stuff; when you hit a building with artillery, a huge chunk falls off from where you hit. Not really useful, but fun nonetheless <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

The shipments are incredibly useful for starting off early and getting reinforcements.

Not so fun stuff; the menu at the bottom takes up WAY to much of the screen. It's driving me nuts! They need to trim it down.

I am actually beginning to worry. I have bought:

Empire Earth 2, Played 1/2 of one game.
Doom 3, 1/2 finished.
HL2, and am 1/2 finished.
Civ 4, played one game for 10 minutes.
Quake 4, played about 1/4 way through.

I have absolutely no inclination to go back to any of them. Spent slightly over 200 bucks and finished nothing. These are not ripped versions from the net, but bought out of my own pocket versions.

The only game I have finished this year is Unreal 2.

The best things in life, aren't things.
