I agree with everything you just said. Sometimes I get shot because I'm too busy admiring the beautiful lighting effects. Me fathers getting a bigger TV, because imagine playing 4 player splitscreen on a 30-inch regular TV.

I'm really annoyed that you can' get in cover in multiplayer though...

Sly Cooper. Condemned too, that was great. Indigo Prophecy. Advanced Warfighter is in my drive 360 right now, but I haven't really put much into it.

WoW sucked me back in.

I started an undead priest on Rexxar and she's up to level 29 right now.

I'm just doing Warsong Gulch battles over and over until I hit Sergeant. PvP is a part of the game I never discovered last summer -- I just found out how fun it is this week.

Condemned: Criminal Origins.Just started it, about an hour into it. Very satisfying visually, and the melee focus is unique. Definitely a console feel to it though you're right there, and lots of hidden stuff which I like. Much more interesting to me than perfect dark zero, which feels alittle to plasticy and simplistic somehow. Maybe it's just the graphics though. I'll force myself to play it more later and see if I can get into it.

Sadly, of the last three game that I just "HAD" to own, I have either not played them, or only played them on a limited basis. These are relatively recent purchases.

$175.00 later, and I am still unsatisfied with gaming.

The only titles I want to see fruition now are Duke 4 ever and Fallout 3.

In fact, upon reflection, I have perhaps a dozen games I have bought that are left unfinished over the course of the past 3 years.

I have decided against spontaneous purchasing from now on.

I just got a brand spakin' new copy of Silhouette Mirage for PlayStation. It was ported over to the US by Working Designs, so I imagine, as it was for me, it will be hard to find! The game was originally made by Treasure ... and if you know ANYTHING, you know that Treasure doesn't make bad games. This game is no exception.

It's incredibly fun. It's a sidescrolling action game, but it has a complex structure implemented through simplistic controls. It follows some of the same ideas in Ikaruga ... two modes, for you, and the enemy. Your mode is determined by the direction you're facing. (Which can be changed with the push of a button) There are several attacks for various positions and a shield that repels a like color attack ... and actually harms whatever it hits.

It's just fun.

Bought Tomb Raider Legends today and I am damned impressed. The early screenshots didn't look like much, but they were obviously holding a lot back. Besides the character models in the cut sequences aren't as good as they could be everything is incredible. The environments are breathtaking, detailed, and oh so cool. Movement is extremely fluid, all the favorite moves are back with a number more thrown in for good measure. The game feels like the original few but looks like the latest and greatest. The best thing is unlike GRAW you don't need a 46 inch digital plasma tv to appreciate the graphics. On my old tv it blows GRAW out of the water, leaping well past games of previous consoles, unlike GRAW which only looked a bit better. The puzzles are fantastic and those who enjoyed and played the original games will get back into the swing of things quickly. The weapon system is a little clunky, but I'm still getting used to it so I imagine it'll get easier to use. So far Tomb Raider Legends is easily a 9.5/10.

Picked up a couple of games lately as they were in the Easter sales.

First up was SSX: On Tour for the PS2. Sadly, they didn't have any of the Xbox version in stock, and while in general the game doesn't suffer for it (it looks and runs great on the PS2), the save times are a complete JOKE. Seriously, it's absolutely ridiculous. You complete an event, go back to the menu, and it autosaves. You then go into the shop and buy something, and on leaving, it autosaves. When you get back to the main map? It autosaves. Might not seem like a big deal, but for some unknown reason, autosaves take about 10 seconds each and every time. It's one of very few games I've come across with which you can't complain at load times, but sure as hell can about save times. Otherwise its great, if a little inconsistant in difficulty. Also, why in this day and age do some games seem to struggle for randomising things? The soundtrack has a lot of tracks to it, but I constantly get the same bunch of tracks playing. Doesn't let you set any sort of linear play order either to at least ensure you don't get a lot of repetition. Shocking. Buy it if you want a snowboarding game where simply riding round banked corners feels good though - I love the amped series for tricks (an area where it really does outshine SSX) but SSX rules the roost for general "riding".

The other game was Project Snowblind for the Xbox. Critically this game did really well and scored around 8 or 9 out of 10 in most reviews, but I've never spoken to anybody who played it and I guess it kinda bombed at retail. I grabbed it for a measly ?3 and though I think it seems to have been a bit overrated, for that money I can't complain. Some pretty cool weapons and augmentations (eg. visual enhancements, ballistic shielding, enhanced reactions (read bullet time)), and the action is thick and fast. Controls seem a little off to me though - the look control seems to have a bit too much of a zero-movement threshold, and then when you've moved the stick a little further it moves too quick. Its not game breaking, but its annoying.

Just updating my opinion of Tomb Raider Legends after completing a water and vehicle section, both of which were none too impressive.

The swimming controls are rediculous, one button to swim up, one to swim down, one to go forward and one to go forawrd fast. It might be fine on a side scrolling platform game but it feels extremely un-natural in full 3D. It would have been easier to simply have the swim movement decided completely by the movement thumbstick, and then have the two speeds of swimming like in the old game. You get used to it eventually, having to swim to certain depths in order to go through tunnels or press buttons, but it took me a good half hour of floundering around to get even basic control.

The vehicle sections is fair shocking as well. The bike has almost zero handling, its like trying to control a slippery brick. The original games had excellent vehicle control so its a real shock to see how much they've ballsed it up.

Other than that the actual tomb raiding is great, and the updated movement system is really nice. After seeing the vehicle sections I think I'd rather they left them out. The new score is 8/10.

Time for a few freeware games:

Samorost
Cute flash adventure game you should try out. Really something different.

Liquid Wars
A strategy game where you fight a war with... liquids. It's hard to explain but this game has Tetris qualities. I heared of that new gameboy with a touch screen. Would be ideal for it.

If you got Vapour (the alternative Steam with mod support) then you can download this in the stand alone games section. Also has a multiplayer.

kkrieger
You might have heared of that one. Actually it's a really bad FPS but the whole game has only 96 kb! 96 kilobytes! Another Vapour release. Check it out for the couriosity value.

Played Silent Hill 3 on the 'ol PS2 (well, up to the amusement park)... really good art, the voice acting was wowowowow horrible, the gameplay I'll refer to as "lacking" because it might just be that there's a way to specifically swing your melee weapons downward and I don't know how. I didn't find it that scary either, maybe it's an unscary game of the series or maybe I knew what to expect (more or less) from watching the movie.

I bought Far Cry Instincts/predator for my 360 and so far it seems to be holding my interest. I am well into the predator stage now, with my acute senses and quick physical attack skills, It definitely adds some variance to the gameplay.I am Playing on the highest difficulty level(as I always do). It seems as though the AI has been dumbed down from the PC version( there were a couple of times when my opponent just stood there ducking and cursing at me without any weaponry, and I could not kill him with any weapon), and I actually got stuck under a boat dock in one level, alittle dissappoinment there, as I was very near the end of the level.

Also, the controls are alittle sloppy. Most of the times I get fragged are when I am trying to aim with the joystick. Very slow and laggy, but then when it does start to move it's too fast and you overshoot your mark.

All in all, alittle less satisfying than the PC version, but a beautiful looking game with some very good gameplay at times.

I just played a demo of Shadowgrounds. I suggest you do the same. It's pretty cool. (You can find it through steam)

It has dynamic shadows and such as well. It seems to be hl2 based, but I'm not sure. It's top down, very reminiciant of postal 1. The plot seems crappy.

But, check it out.

I also have played the Shadowgrounds demo. The controls are a lot like an FPS (wasd), which is good, but I would have liked more freedom in aiming (all you get is yaw, no pitch). Overall I think the demo was pretty good, but I wouldn't buy the full game for any more than they're asking. It's pretty cool, I'd agree with Crono on the "check it out," you might like it a lot. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I've played the full version of Shadowgrounds. Quite nice game. A bit repetitive on the monster side later in game, but still worth the cheap price.

Played the Shadowgrounds demo, but didn't have much luck. First time I played it, it crashed almost immediately when I tried to use a computer <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> I launched it again and everything seemed fine, but after getting the pistol, killing a couple of aliens, and jumping in the jeep to go off to the water plant or whatever, it crashed again <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif"> Was there anything after that in the demo? Didn't seem like there had been enough combat so I assume there is. Dunno if I can be bothered trying again though.

Seemed like not a bad game, given the budget price tag. I reckon it would be fun in coop.
