Erm, I know this might sound silly but, which tutorials am I best off starting with to learn perhaps the newer editions to hammer now? I might even need to brush up on some old skills aswell tbh :S

btw - uploaded a picture of myself for once, as did my brother.

So you have mapped before? I guess it would be best to look through the release documentation that runs through some of the basics. You can get it when you first open source SDK. Other than that, start mapping and look for a tutorial for whatever you first get stuck on. I think Dr. Glass is working on a beginners tutorial for HL2, but that might take a while to get up.

I first started a month ago, and I read through all the stuff Valve gives you, and then anything I felt like learning I found out from the tutorials/forums here.

I'd just start mapping as before and then when you stumble across something that might warrant a tutorial - then look. Brushwork-wise, it's more or less the same so you're already halfway there [addsig]

Tactical Gamers

67.19.132.154:27015

I've been having some really bad lag in the last few days though. My ping is usually in the 60 to 80 range, lately it hasent gone under 250 and toped out at 473.

If that server is full, their second server is

67.19.132.155:27015

Hey Korn nice to see that your back . Anyways mapping for HL2 hasnt changed much from HL1 mapping, except for adding models (prop Statics). learning the new entities you can do along the way.

Also put an env_cubemap in each area. I think that's what gives the spinkyness.

IMO Hammer=Worldcraft. I cannot see much difference and i started mapping for HL2 without reading any sort of tuts. Very easy IMHO. sure there are some new features, but they are not different enough to throw you off.

You won't like the new engine at first, but over time you'll get used to it. [addsig]

Look into displacement surfaces and 3D skybox. They are the two most important additions to the Source engine from the original HL1 engine.

Env_soundscape is quite important too, but not nearly as noticeable as the above mentioned features.
