Luke: "Ben! What wrong?"
Obi Wan: "It was as if millions of Narutard voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced"
Luke: "Oh, its about f**king time!"

Naruto has been licenced. Currently well over 400 people just in the Naruto forum on www.animesuki.com discussing (mostly whining, really) about the licencing. There were probably a lot more yesterday.

Naruto is a good anime series.
By being licensed, does that mean it wasn't illegal to download before.

As long as they dont ruin it with plot changes, bad voices and bad translations.

You must have heard about OnePiece, in my opinion, the greatest anime ever, from what ive heard when 4kids licensed it, it was completely ruined, apparently the guns now shoot water, and there is not blood whatsoever, and ive heard rumors about them cutting scenes from the Arlong fight because of zoro's wound. Same goes for dragonball/Z and various others. The only anime's ive seen that were good after licensing and translating were Evangelion, Martion Successor Nadesico, Cowboy Bebop and to some extent, Outlaw star.

Now i cant even watch one piece fansubs after episode 131

That and we have virtually no anime here in the UK anyways

A sad thing. Seems like there's still some hope though:
? quoting http://www.narutofan.com/

"As of now we can say that many things in the Naruto community will remain the same, AonE has said they will not drop Naruto as a series they subtitle. ANBU however is likely to drop the series completely, while Dattebayo has not made an official comment on the matter."

Seems like ANBU will stop at 121. Let's hope that Aone and DB continue to release high quality fansubs of Naruto. Downloaded and watched 122 by DB myself yesterday. Perhaps there will be more Naruto products avaliable after being licensed, such as an english version of the cardgame.

I was an Anbu fan personally, but I've never watched either of the other fansub's work so I can't really complain. I hope this means the US at least might see some Naruto games, and if so then we might get lucky and see a UK one.

Well, with the way convoluted international copyright law works, it was never illegal to download it, but it was always illegal to provide any means of uploading it Additionally, there are some extentions to copyright law recognized in Europe (but not the US), that make any modification of an original work illegal. This makes the fansubber's adding of subtitles in and of itself an illegal act in Europe, even if they never distributed any of works they subtitled.

As for DB: They are still subbing it at this point, thank god . You can get an address to the obscure link from their channel #DB on irc.rizon.net.

As for this new media company that's licenced it, I'm with diablobasher and hope they don't do to it what funimation did to Onepiece and Inuyasha. Funimation did a little better with FMA (Full metal alchemist), but I still liked the original Japanese Saiyus better (probably 'cuz I'm used to them). Cowboy Bebop (distrod by Bandai) is about the only anime I can think of where I actually liked some of american VA's *better* than the Japanese ones. Except for Faye; I liked the Japanese Faye better.

ReNo: ANBU and Aone subbed Naruto together, except for a few episodes when they did it separately. So, seems like Aone are on there own now. As for DB, I personally think the picture quality is not as good as the ANBU&Aone releases, but not far away. As I don't know japanese I can't tell how good the subtitles themselves are, but I have a feeling ANBU&Aone's subs were a little more accurate.

LAzerMANiac, sadly, I think you're right :'(.

You friends just wierd
It's actully rather mature, with graphic violence and light sexual content.
(in the current episodes i'm watching theres a character who spends most of his nights at a whorehouse)

I wouldn't call it cartoon. There are animes and mangas (comic books) out there containing violence and sex aimed for adults, definitely not suited for kids.
