I dont know why gamers think intels cpus are better. AMD owns intel and will for a while I would know my dad is a network administrator at INTEL and he perfers AMD most of the guys there he says own AMD and say they are at intel for the money. Intels new cpus over heat so the cpu has to throttle it self back so the new intel chips dont run at full power all the time.

The heating problem is mainly with the Prescott core, which is definitely a bit of a joke. Stick to the northwood cores, they give you equivalent performance for cheaper. Plus the P4Cs are an overclocker's dream. And SpeedStep has been announced so recently I don't think anyone clearly knows what it's about. All I have heard is that it's used on the Prescott 2M cores. I doubt it has been placed in production yet

I'm sick of hearing this crap that "AMD is better!!!" or even the occasional "Intel OWNS YER MUTHA". Each processor has it's advantages and disadvantages. Stop screaming about why you're choice is better. The AthlonXPs and the Pentium4s have been performing equivalently for a long time now. The only clear differences I can see is that hardware for the AthlonXP is slightly cheaper to come by, so it's the best choice for any frequent upgrader (usually gamers).

(Oh, and this wasn't aimed at anyone in particular)

Quiet fools! More talk on this 64bit windows... One question I'm sure Crono can answer... Xbox is 128bit... So was PS2. Why are PC's so behind the times?

I thought the XBOX uses a 128 bit GPU only. The processor is 32bit (P3/733MHz). I think the GF4 Ti series and up (except for the FX5200) also come with a 128bit bus

If your looking for a 64-bit OS go with a linux setup. Right now linux has the best 64-bit OS, and has all the drivers as well.

Im going to dual boot this one when i get a chance: http://alioth.debian.org/projects/debian-amd64/

I'm using Win XP 64 bit for the time being, and it isn't that bad. It has a lot of bugs and to get it working I had to install drivers for various motherboard components, but other wise it isn't too bad.

Anyway, I thought someone better post the link, so here it is:

However, 32-bit processes cannot load 64-bit dynamic link libraries (DLLs), and 64-bit processes cannot load 32-bit DLLs.

Now I know very little about this stuff, but I can see problems arrising right here, like trying to play Half Life 2, maya or any other program the can cause this problem. I lke the fact that you will be able to hold up a lot more RAM . Thanks Loco for the link.

The 64-bit windows, at least the verison out now, has a 32-bit emulator called WOW, to run 32-bit in the 64-bit OS. [addsig]

How many of us actually have more than 4 GB of RAM on a desktop ? .01 %?

"Right now linux has the best 64-bit OS"

Wrong - http://www.freebsd.org

And actually crono - 64 bit optimized applications are a lot faster than 32 bit optimized applications - maybe 50 % faster or so.

Yep. And 64 bit systems can support up to a terrabyte of RAM. Hideously large isn't it?

When 32-bit CPU's came out they said the same about 4 GB of RAM, and machines are starting to push the limit now. [addsig]

Actually in theory, 64 bit systems can support up to 16777216 Terabytes. Now that is hideously large.

If computer development wasn't slowing down (if it is at all), the time when 64 bit computing will become obsolete from a memory perspective will take 16 times longer than the time it took 32 bits to become obsolete. Weve been on them about 20 years or so? You do the math. Though thats not the only reason to migrate to larger instruction sets.

I have Win Pro x64 on my Amd 64 and even the 32bit programs runs much faster. HL2 and CS:S load much faster.

The downside is that many devices still dont have drivers...

Still waiting to get my hands on a Far Cry 64bit edition...
