Dunno if anyone has done this or not, but Black Mesa Source just released a huge update.

Black Mesa Source is a complete remake of HL1 with the source engine. Check out their new media, it's pretty sweet, and looks good. You can also recognize where all those places were in HL1.

Have fun. [addsig]

Other than using HL2 textures, it doesn't yet seem to offer anything that HL:Source doesn't have :/ There's no point in remaking HL1 unless you're going to fill it with Source Engine goodness.

It is filled with Source Engine goodness. You can't tell that from screenshots as much, but in my opinion things look much better. Everything was so flat in HL1, and in BMS things look much beffier. I also think that with the physics engine that will make it fun too.

I think the main point of this mod is to make HL1 sexier.

I thought it was good. [addsig]

Looks like nothing special, even with all those talented NS Custom content creators among the team.

Although it doesn't look great, it's much better than HL:source is, IMHO. However, I think they should import the old HL1 textures if they REALLY want to make a proper remake of the original.

Screens dont impress much, I for one am not a big fan of recycled ideas. I think black mesa should be behind us.

I like to go back and play parts of HL1 and Opposing Force and Blue Shift, but I just end up stopping because it looks so raunchy. I think this, if they pull it off, will be a good way to relive the past. To be honest I didn't think HL2 was THAT great anyways. It was good and all, but short and repetitive in my mind. [addsig]

I wasn't impressed, not only was the architecture poor, but they even spelt it the damn word wrong! [addsig]

Nightwatch is taking Black Mesa a whole lot further than this is, and thats a HL1 Mod!

For some reason, the Media link doesn't work for me.

Agreed with Thursday! There isnt a single screenshot in their media section that I couldn't do in HL1 and with acceptable R-Speeds. Source can handle a LOT more than what those screens are offering.

Also the website doesn't display well in high resolutions. I run 1600x1200 in firefox and the entire website takes up less than 1/4 of the screen and is in the bottom corner.

Surely those maps can't be finished though? The only thing I see different from HL is the more detailed textures and the curves seem like they are smoother. When I first saw this mod I thought they were doing a complete remake of HL on the source engine, and in the spirit of HL2 (ie high detail)

SaintGreg, I'm pretty sure that's what they're doing. I haven't read anything on their site though. [addsig]

Nice presentation, but they should add more detail to the levels, with the source engine they can add soo much more.

Looks promising, but I'm still skeptical. Screenshots don't always translate to progress or solid leadership. Hoping for the best though, anyway. I think they're still thinking too much "inside the box" though, concerning the scope of the levels.

Go to www.halflife2.net, they post any updates to any of the mods on their list, BMS is one of them. [addsig]

I honestly don't see why people want to see HL1 in the source engine. I played HLS all the way to the beginning of 'On a Rail' and the differences were tiny yet so profound that I didn't feel like I was playing the same game. For a straight port it sure didn't feel like it (outside of the textures and models obviously ).

For a start the added physics (mainly ropes and such) were cool enough, but they changed some of the jumping puzzles. There seemed to be differences in the sound which was annoying, but the most surprising thing was that the AI was doing different things. For example near the beginning of 'We've Got Hostiles' there's this part where there's a barnacle waiting over some stairs and standing between you and the marines. In HL the two marines would run down to get you at different times, get caught in the barnacle, and be gibbed. In HLS I was stunned when after the first one was caught the next marine who came down actually shot at the barnacle and killed it before running at me. I was shocked I tell you! It was like they fixed a bug or something between versions and it was cool, but it also wasn't the same...

Basically I felt that it wasn't the same and that I wasn't getting the exact same HL experience, and I'm a loser who felt the original was perfect and doesn't like the changes. If I felt the need to play through HL again I'd much rather reinstall the old one than play HLS.

Nice website. Not as optimized as it should be but nicely done nonetheless.

As for the screenshot, I think it's in a too early stage to really show off. Right now it's indeed just some higher polygon architecture. Use of prop models is at a minimum where it could've been used much better.

As for the idea, I think it'd be better to expand to other, unexplored parts of Black Mesa. New graphics are all fine, but it's so much stronger with a new storyline and new environments. Some recognizable spots are good, but to recreate it all just with some added visuals... I see it as a sort of waste of resources. Sort of.

I think that it should be recreated like the original, with the exception that every door that was locked before, now holds a special new room/new place/new challenge.

Along with, of course, hi res textures, modeling, and added props and detail...with the possible option of having the grav gun as a cheat.

Seriously though...the door idea could give it some serious replay value!
