Got a few people together on IRC for a quick playtest, along with me and Myrk earlier on in the evening. I'll sort out the IP distribution (and password) tomorrow, as i'm off to bed shortly

I'll also be uploading a few of the best custom maps by our own Snarkpit users for playing, and will link them as relevant. Orph was playing too, but he ran to change PC's and never returned! :O

Ping times seemed fairly smooth, quick list off the top of my head:

Myrk: UK - 20-40
Gwil: UK - 30-40
ZombieLoffe: Sweden - 40-70
Parakeet: East Coast USA - 100 - 130
Orpheus: Arkansas, USA - 150-180
Nickelplate: 2 Yoghurt pots + some string - 700-900

Edit: Lep, can you please add this image to the site somewhere? It's part of the T&C apparently. Perhaps a wee page about the server? I'll rattle off the IP to you when I wake up.

I am on the west Coast USA in Washington....would my ping be like 250? I hope not...

I just looked to see if it were true...and it is...but there are no players....and no way for me to get in w/ out a password.....

I didn't join but from the server browser it said I was getting 100ms and I'm in Pennsylvania. That's more than playable. [addsig]

I havent played DM in a very long time... I've been on TG servers playing objective CS:S

I know it sounds simple, but it comes up sometimes. I ran one of the biggest HLDM clans for 3 years, believe me. "I can't seem to locate the server PLEASE HELP!"

To find a certain server is simple people. Load HL2DM in Half-Life. Click on the favorites tab and enter the IP address. After that if you did it correctly, the server stats will show up in the window. Click on it and join if there are any empty slots. At that point, if there is a password it will ask for confirmation.

Easy as that.

If we could get some server script to pump out details on the server (current map, # of players, time left, etc...) onto some part of the snarkpit webpage it would be excellent

is there a thread anywhere on how to setup a server?

AKA how to imply sv_download url...the motd.txt.....how to implement a banner.gif for content server pic....and that sort of stuff?

edit:

I ran my own listen server for HL1 for a few months...but with hl2 I would like to take it a step further...thats all

Plus I thought this was for all the snarkpit maps, you should take the valve maps either out of the rotation.

I ping the server at 115, so its not bad but I dont know if I will be able to suck hard enough with a ping like that.

Its only just up people, I imagine it will take Gwil a bit of time to get a custom map rotation going, get a map pack put together, and officially "open" the server. I'm sure the password will be given out plenty soon enough

The password is currently up in the IRC room, but if Gwil gives the OK I'll put it on the front page/control panel.

thats really fun! I cant wait to play the custom maps. Even with a ping of 100-150 I was able to play just fine. Super job gwil

More updates -

The reason the password stands at the moment is it's part of the T&C to keep it on, and I'm unsure about the "legality" of handing it out en mass (eg via this website). We have some "organised" games going from IRC like Leperous says, and have had some fun blasts so far.

I'm looking into upgrading the server so it is unpassworded, but also so we can have a password system for organised matches/gaming sessions/playtests.
