I am requesting "The Pit 2"
tis the only map i have played so far that i actually look forward to playing.
not to dis anyone else's of course, but i love small trap filled arena maps.
i am also requesting an admin slot, assuming anyone wants me to be one of course. if its a problem, then its a problem snarkpit doesn't need ![]()

We're really after maps suited for 10+ players, given the server's popularity!

As for admin slots, i'd rather people gave me themed nights or times, guarantees when they can admin something specific rather than just say "i'd like to be an admin"

I can understand not wanting a password system. i agree on principal. i disagree in practice however.
a system can be incorporated that would password it, but encourage people to come here to obtain it as members of the snarkpit.
also, i highly recommend disabling downloading of maps, as it just drives up the pings un-necessarily. this will also encourage people to join snarkpit, or at least visit more often to be able to obtain the maps.
i highly recommend a password, but one so easy to obtain that only morons and assholes who don't want to conform will be absent.
as i said, i agree with you on principal... [DRS] had its own server, it was very successful the way i just described.

Also, I didn't want to see ?400 worth of server go to waste because the password aware users werent playing at the same time, also, when im trying to showcase peoples maps, forcing them to be members here or come here for the custom downloads defeats the whole reasons and motives I had for setting up this server in the first place.
There is no discussion to be had, like I say.
The password stays off, apart from for themed nights or organised playtests, clan matches etc. Like I say, I will not budge on this.

Gwil, you have final say-so. If you wanted to run killboxes, no one would say a thing about it... mostly out of respect i would bet.
lets hope you do not regret your decision.. the good news is, it won't take long to see if you did well or not.
a server with low pings is a commodity no one can afford to pass up.
my only concern, and it has merit. if pit members cannot get in cause the server won't open up often enough, you will lose the very people you got the server for in the first place.
bottom line, its your call, all i can do is grant you the experience with servers i have, as limited as that may be.. we only had the server for a couple years before i left the clan.
happy fragging everyone ![]()

I am sick to the back fricking teeth of hearing this now
A) IF, the password had remained a PERMANENT fixture and the password had been distributed (via this website, email, IRC, flying monkeys in helicopters with megaphones, ANYTHING), THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS WOULD HAVE BEEN VIOLATED AND THE ACCOUNT SUSPENDED.
B) A passworded server will achieve NO difference in ping times, AT ALL. There is no argument to be had here, it is fact. A full server will ALWAYS lag, password or no password.
C) I did NOT get the server for you guys - sorry to beat it down, but I didn't.
I got the server so YOU, the MAPPERS could have their works shown on public rotation once they were of sufficient quality to be included. Keeping an elitist password only, members only (see also the T&C point) server, would defeat the object. Maps played would be dependant on our still limited active, regular userbase.
I got the server so a potential clan could be formed - AND PUT ON THE *OPTIONAL* PASSWORD for matches, practices etc/
I got the server so YOU, the MAPPERS could have their works PLAYTESTED in ORGANISED, PASSWORDED NIGHTS (i've said this, 3, 4, 5? times now) - mass group playtesting of maps to go hand in hand with the "Maps" forum.
THE SERVER WILL RUN YOUR MAPS - THE ONES GOOD ENOUGH, WILL GO ON PUBLIC ROTATION.
OTHERWISE, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR MAP PLAYTESTED.
There is NO discussion to be had about the password situation. It will stay OFF (I paid another ?80 to legalise our *public use* (which it was, even when we had it passworded ALL the time).
The password will go ON for themed nights - playtest nights, tournaments, clan matches, team maps etc etc. I want to hear ideas about these, but all people seem to do is debate the password (it is legal issues, and issues of "why waste ?400 on a server that would see sporadic use by a select gang, breaking the T&C by viewing the password on a PUBLIC website").
Also, there will be NO priority slots - this server, in public mode, will be to demonstrate YOUR maps to EVERYONE - website users, or not. This is what I felt the biggest downfall of mapping to be. Working, working, working to end up seeing your map not included in a rotation, anywhere.
If you want a slot on the public mode, wait the extra 5 minutes to get in if it's full - I do too, and I paid for the damn thing
NOW.
On with ideas - themed nights, playtest nights, tournaments etc. Once you have ideas, I can assign admins to said nights (and therefore public too). As it stands, I can't do anything because people are thrashing out a point which is
1) worthless to argue, for the various reasons listed
2) here to stay. I am sick of repeating myself over the password issue. It stays off, apart from themed nights (or similar). And God only knows how many times I've said this, and still been met with blank stares and "but the password.."
On with the show, password OFF.

*Flashback*
This looks like my diatribe about screen shot optimizations ![]()
enough already jeez.. if i had to chose a server with that stipulation, i might not have chosen it.
damn son, i was gone for days, you may be tired of discussing it, but tonight, its 2 hours old for me.

eg:
"Friday Night Frag Fest - Snarkpit Only, Snarkpit Maps, Straight DM. Friday nights, 8pm -12pm GMT.
Admins: ReNo, DrGlass
Map Cycle: Decided on a weekly basis"
Edit - these nights WILL be passworded (see my rant about passwords in Banter
The server will primarily run in public mode (see rant again for "Why"), but we can have a slot each night - some fixed, some open for weekly change, for people with irregular schedules, e.g. Orpheus.
I need these suggestions ASAP as I'm not actually going to be here as of April, so I want to be assigning the initial RCON's and FTP controllers well before I leave.

Even though its pit members, i still recommend turning off downloading.
are we gonna keep to the big maps here too, or can i have pit2 ![]()
as far as my schedule, don't go out of your way just for me, i will join anytime i am home, assuming a slot is available.
i do however suggest, if this goes well, that people not hog the server on snarkpit night. allow others to join if the server remains full.
