playing often should not be the top prerequisite however. no offense to those two members of course.
you should post a thread, see whom is interested then decide from the list. being an admin does not really suggest that you know who is best beforehand. you may be the one deciding, but you may be considering people not interested in the position.
besides, you may chose someone that we do not want in the spot.. thats not likely, but it could happen.

Agreed; might I add that most people tend to consider having admin rights a privelage rather than a responsibiliy.

Starting a thread isn't a bad idea, but I wouldn't like to embarrass or offend people by refusing them admin positions. If nobody asks, and the opportunity is offered out instead, this isn't going to happen. Obviously people can feel free to refuse of course

thats right, if some power seeking guy gets admin he might ban people for killing him and stuff like that, and it would be sucky

heres a thought, what are the odds of everyone not being available at the same time?
i mean seriously, wouldn't it be better to have 20 trusted members who only show up a few times a week, than to have a full time crew of malcontents?
i am not suggestion that the position would be abused, but i am more apt to trust people i have known 5 years than 5 months.
i originally turned down the position because i truly felt that i would not be there often enough to be of much use, BUT i am around or available and someone could have PM'd me and said "hey orph, we have an asshole in the server right now, can you log on and ban him"
i feel that anyone could do that and not necessarily be fragging 24/7
consider it.

Give admin to people who play alot, try to spred it out over the time zones (americans are good to police the early day europians). Watch them from time to time, if they abuse people need to report them.
Though, on a side note. I've lost my admin on two servers becuase non-admin see me ban some one, and dont understand why (like they join the server and see me ban some random guy) so they report me. So I would say, pick people who play alot and wont go crazy with power. Also, dont give people full admin. Leave the banning to the head admin.

its my belief that you should give people enough power to identify IP addresses and then allow the full admins to ban them. it would be beneficial to have more than one of these people at a time, to verify the offensive player however. i can tell you from first hand experience how easy it is for a moderator, or admin to abuse their powers. one of them was right here in the predawn days of snarkpit. fortunately, he was caught and dismissed.
anywho's, just to clarify my position, i think we need more full admins, but we need more moderators that have powers enough to identify who needs banned.

i am not the only person here all day when i am home.. it would take moments to minutes to get a hold of me if you saw my name in the "online" list.. /methinks that anyone here, who is an admin on the server is as far away as a PM.

I have a reasonable amount of free time on my hands daily and can play on the server quite often and feel the temptation of PMing, but i'm not going to; it feels embarassing. I ,for one, simply cannot PM someone and say "Gimme gimme gimme".

if its any consolation, i got my ass royally whipped once again on the server..
i can honestly say, snarkpit has some good players.. i also feel a bit of it, a small bit of it is due to having a ping less than 100 :P
forgive my small excuses for being a loser :/

Andrei, I mentioned you in my post before, and I'll do so again. If you feel you can handle the responsibility of being an admin, the place is yours. You've been here a good while now and I see no reason not to trust you with the position. You play on the server more than most people and seem like a responsible guy, so I think it would be great if you could admin. Even better, you are what, -3 hours on GMT? Besides Australians, we don't have that many long time members that far east that come to mind, with the exception of Fraggard in India.

What time of the day (GMT or whatever) does this usually happen? I'm going to be in there more often now, with my bannination tool at the ready, though if someone wants to tell me the rcon command to view a player's Steam ID it would be appreciated " SRC="images/smiles/evilgrin.gif">

that would be either Greenland, or off in the Atlantic Andrei :/
my time zone is -6, the east coast is -5 the Atlantic ocean begins in -4 and i doubt there are many cities either floating, or on the ocean floor ![]()
tell me, where do you live, and what time is it locally.. i bet someone can figure it out. not me, but someone. ![]()
[edit] now that i think about it.. i cannot recall if i am -6 or +6
disregard my comments, it only shows my lack of.... something.
