Both these maps are a bit too small for the server I think, though I guess we could always keep Spire in reserve for when things aren't so busy.

Bl1tz, your map has a few potential gameplay issues which need to be fixed (e.g. about 10 batteries next to each other, and low FPS from fog/smoke). You should also consider making it larger, or more focused if it's to remain small.

Well, I'd really like to have it on the server -- I know it's a bit smaller, but it will fit 6-8 for a real fast fragging game.

I can fix up the battery issue easy, and tweak the fog. The layout is going to remain relatively unchanged though in terms of size and focus.

I'm guessing there was no match yesterday?

edit:

Should I even post in here? Makes me feel like a spammer. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/brickwall.gif">

I think dm_fallout by ShaDoW from interlopers.net is very good. I'd like to see it on the server if possible.

There was a match at 3pm on Sunday 15th, which we unfortunately lost. This means we have been put out of the cup, and so will have to wait until the league starts up before we have any more proper matches.

For those interested in what happened in the match, here is a short report. The first map was our opponent's (PoJ) map dm_overwatch. They took the all important roof from the outset and held both it and the middle floor pretty well throughout. We, for the most part, held the cellar and tried to rush the roof, fairly unsuccessfully. They won the map pretty convincingly, but they were the better side.

Next up was our map dm_torque. A few of their team didn't know the map which worked to our advantage, and we held onto the RPG roof and managed to snag a reasonable win by a margin of about 20 kills.

As this match was in the final stages of the cup, the match needed a winner. As a decider, the admin of the match had to choose a random map. The map chosen was dm_outpost, and to be honest it was a bit of a farse. The "trap" must have killed our team members about 20 or more times through the map, which saw a few of our members in negative scores for a good portion of the match. The enemy team quickly grabbed the teleporter room, complete with only two access points (one through the teleporter, one through a winding corridor) and this room is laughably overstocked and easily defended in TDM. It features a long ladder to an elevated walkway that goes into a room overlooking the main room, and this little room has the RPG, the supercharger, and AR2 balls plus more in the way of items. The main room also had an AR2 and more, meaning the room was effectively all that was needed to succeed on the map. They had an RPG permanently pointing at the teleporter entrance meaning going through it was suicide, and if you charged through the corridor into the room you were raped by AR2 balls. They camped in this room for most of the match, which made it impossible for us to gain a foothold in the game.

Fair play to the other team - they used tactics and worked together better than our rather unorganised rabble, and really deserved to win the match when it comes down to individual skill and teamplay. That said, when there was talk about the decider map they whined about it being on a random map and how they never agreed to the map list. Suffice to say they weren't whining when they realised how easy it would be for them once they held the teleporter room! They also started whinging about getting the default win if we switched out a player who had his dinner ready for another, though it wouldn't have been necessary if their team hadn't disappeared after the second map and then taken ages to come back in again.

All in all it was a fun match, though the last map put a bit of a downer on it. If people would actually post in this thread in reply to questions about preferred practice times and the like, then hopefully we can get better as a team and see a bit more success on maps that aren't torque <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Did you try gravnading them out of that room by bouncing the grenades off the corridor wall? That usually works... <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/sad.gif">

Yeah, but the room was so large and the opening to the corridor was so large, that they could easily stand well back and still spam it with combine balls from a safe distance. Some of the team were catching the combine balls and firing them back into the room, but that room really is so large and open that they weren't a very effective weapon.

I am in such a good mood. Today I just noticed that my DSL had been downgraded accidentally. I had been fragging SP server with a 180-200 ping and my DSL. Today I had them bump it back to where it was supposed to be and got a noticeable ping advance. This screen was taken, with my son fragging another server across from me and my ping was still markedly improved. Funny, the technician fixed my DSL with a simple flip of a switch. I wonder why they always make people wait 10 days :/

/me anticipates some quality kills now.

[EDIT] This is Juim's server, I used to have 120-130 pings.

/me does jig.

There are damned few decent crosshairs made so far for HL2, I need the biggest or brightest one I can find. That one works OK, but I am on the lookout for some colored varieties if you come across any.

Someone left the gravity borked on the SP server. Was this by design or accident?

I have no problem with it but some may and not join because of it.

Jeez, natus forgot to switch that off before leaving (I left before he did so I couldn't have switched it off myself)!

Now, TBH, playing island17 with sv_gravity 150 is great fun, especially for those who know how to gravnade. Everyone loved it so!

Oh, and this brings an interesting problem: the default gravity is 600 but the rcon command shows the minimum gravity is 800. Can't there anything be done about this?

I'll see if I can add a custom rcon command to the admin list to set gravity back to 600 then <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
