I just came up with the idea today. After spending countless number of hours trying to convince parents that kids can't catch a cold from not wearing a jacket and vitamins don't help their kids grow better, I want to compile all the answers and find a publisher to educate the public about their children's health.

I'll start doing some research today on existing literature and find a potential publisher. Do you guys think it's a good idea? By the time most of you become parents, my book might be published already.

The only problem with the idea for this book is that if parents don't believe you when you say it to their face, why would a book persuade them more? I suppose a book would have the effect of saying "I told you so" on a more national level when they realize (if ever) that they're not the brightest folk around, though. [addsig]

Good luck with it! My grandad wrote a book in the medical field a fair few years back, and the problem he had was making sure everything was accurate - bad advise in the medical sector will get you nowhere. I remember it taking him years just to get everything in a coherent order before he even started writing the book.

I can try and find out how he went about getting a publisher etc. next time I see him if you want?

I had a dig around the web to see if his book was still kicking around and could only find the following link:

I'm sure he'd be chuffed to know if it's still being used for training purposes so if you've ever come across it Satchmo, could you let me know? I know you're not a nurse, but some of the training must cross over to an certain extent right?

I guess you'll have to make it wacky or somehow controversial to get it to become a mainstream book! Otherwise you could talk to health services about writing a leaflet given out in clinics, or some other thing that isn't necessarily a book... Of course that's not as amazing, but hey, all writers start off small

You should also dispell other facts about kids, hell there is so much s**t out there that we as kids are told and that adults tell other adults about us kids (and teens) that is un-founded and un true.

sounds like a good idea to me! the tough part will be writing and packaging it such that you can reach a broad audience. It isn't specifically pediatrics, but one of my all time pet peeves is people putting butter or oil on burns *shudders* [addsig]
