I'd get a SATA hard drive instead of IDE. IDE is dying. [addsig]

the difference between sata and ata is trivial presently.. I am not sure if laymen like us could even distinguish the times.. i am under the impression that it would be like looking at HL2 at 40fps and 60fps..

*shrugs*

been wrong before.. could be now too.

[edit]

this is just my views.. feel free to disregard.

1)go for a 19 inch monitor.2)go for a 3500+.3)name brand ram is just that, name brand.. tis what you are truly paying for.4)get a case with a power supply already.5)can't say about vid.. i have not really researched those.6)can't say about MB either.. but PCI-E is the future.

i cannot think in the currencies, so i dunno the prices, but when i was researching my pc.. the prices were neglegable in bigger/price.

a 19 Inch monitor would cost a fortune + the ram, no idea who the company is anyway heh. it was just suggested to me since ram was one of the main reasons for replacing my comp. [addsig]

i got my new 19" for just over 100 dollars.

quite a big difference then I would have thought. at least double that for the extra screen size. [addsig]

doubled? WOW!

its got to be a combination of "availability" and "competition"

computer parts have spiroled down for a couple years now in the states..

well, who knows, you may proove once and for all that a brit can order safely from the states and receive what they wanted.

or not. :/

you may have to pay more, but there is a certain security in knowing that the parts can be returned easier if you buy them locally (in country)

good luck either way..

yeah, im best off sticking top UK companies really, simply because you cant trust royal mail and other such uk delivery services, theyre all craptacular. Does anyone know what the ATI equivelent of that pci-e card is? edit: IE what ATI card can you get for 150 quid? [addsig]

first off, pci express is fairly new, so its gonna be a bit higher.

secondly, you have a few ati versions.. all with the numbers such..

x300-cheapest

x600

x700

x800-most expensive.

secondly, how much is a quid?

there could be other pdi-e cards, but i have not researched them enough to know.

I got the 19" version of that Hyundai Imagequest monitor and I love it. Set me back a little over a ?100 as I managed to pick it up while it was in Overclocker's deal of the week. Their current price on it is ?130, compared to ?85 for the 17" version. I like the larger screen size, but its personal preference whether it is worth the extra. Overclockers have a huge cut price section this week, but it will probably end in the next day or two. Some of the stuff you listed they have cheaper, so its worth checking out... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_This_Week_Only_25.html [addsig]

Jon, my reason for going with a SATA drive was that SATA, while at present doesnt offer noticable advantages, it is the future. Not many people want IDE anymore. Besides, the cost difference is like 5 bucks. [addsig]

Right as I understand it my best bet atm is the ATI Radeon X700 XT - The problem is trying to find somewhere to buy the bloody thing. I presume it will cost about 150quid INC vat.

Can anyone suggest anywhere?

for the processor get the .13 Micron instead of what ya have. the 3000+ .13 Micron OC's to 2.5ghz on good cooling stable. Just a FYI to save ya some money.
