Since this topic isn't posted yet, i guess i'll do it. Just so everyone knows:
I stumbled upon
This
this morning. Then when I fired up steam, loe and behold:
the new
steam news tells of the expansion. I must say that I'am relieved
to hear an official word from valve that there would be an expansion,
rather than the rumor that was circulating around the internet.

Me too! Valve suck for charging extra for a game that we've already finished 3-4 times.

Uhh... for HL2? No?
And why are you expecting Gearbox work from Valve?
Though granted, Brothers in Arms squadmates were much improved over the HL2 ones, hehe. Maybe there just weren't any doors to snag up in... *shrug*

i've got a store bought copy of hl2, so i dont get the steamy version of hl1. and even though i've never had any transactions via steam, it says that i have, and wont allow me to buy anything else online. p.o.s. marketing really.

Just off topic: The doom 3 expansion (resurection of evil) is out, and
it cost me 37$, I must say that there is a cool feture in it that makes
it stand out...but I wont say what it is, ill just say its another
artifact that has "certain powers"
.
But yes im waiting for the expansion and the lost coast episode (its suppost to com out with in April or May), i just want to test out if my machine can handle that HDR.

I don't suppose this artifact is a rip off of the gravity gun from HL2 that I read about some place.

Doom3 has had the capacity for such a thing since before HL2 was even announced; it's basically a slightly updated version of the g_dragentity command hooked to a flashy view model and some effects.
Besides, if something is fun and well-implemented, isn't that the most important thing? Physics in games is something just emerging as a really exciting gameplay mechanic; you'd better get used to seeing the capacity of manipulating them more often. Tired ripoffs will always be tired ripoffs. Not worth getting upset about.
(PS: Jedi Knight had the ability to pick up and throw small objects, too - before the first Half-Life shipped.

The artifact and the "gravity gun" are different weapons. The artifact
looks like a gun stuck in a live beating heart. The gravity gun in D3
isnt as "fun" as HL2's, but just as useful (you can "catch" the
fireballs in mid air and shoot them back where they came from).
Doom 3 always had physics, the game just never made use of it because the bodies would disappear, and there wern't that many props. I just believe Nerve (the developement company) ripped of HL2's grav gun, not id, they still hold their integrity IMO.
It wouldn't surprise me if we start seeing more "gravity guns" in games now. After the sucess of HL2, any game with out some sort of gravity manipulator is going to be shuned.

I recently read about a game called 'Red Ninja'. It didn't feature a
gravity-gun or something alike (:P), but a throwable rope weapon. As
far as I understood, it does make use of physics, but in a different
way than just attracting and throwing objects. Seems like an
interesting weapon to me...
As for Aftermath, sounds interesting. I've enjoyed Opposing Force and Blueshift a lot, so I'm definitely interested to see how Valve will do it this time.

I dont think Aftermath will match the scale of Opp for or blueshift
(well maybe buleshift). Sounds like just a level add on to me,
maybe about the size of one chapter (5-8 maps?). I cant wait for
the new lighting thing though
