Hello People.

I've got the following problem:

I can not connect to my 2nd computer anymore wich is connected in my home LAN. It worked the last two years without any problems. Here is a picture that shows my LAN:

"ding" is connected to the internet. It has "Shared Internet" enabled so that "hackz" is able to use the internet, too. ding's IP is 192.168.0.1 and hackz's IP is 192.168.0.2 with the DNS-Server IP of ding, 192.168.0.1. ding is using Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4 and hackz is using Windows XP Pro. The last two years I was able to share files from one computer to the other. But now I am unable for unknown reasons. If you try to connect from hackz to ding, it just doesn't show anything. The attempt to connect on ding just times out. If you try to connect from ding to hackz, it shows hackz's computer in the network but it says: "Can't connect to Hackz. Reason: Access denied."

I think there is a problem with the hackz computer because if I wanna try to set up shared internet there it says: Error 799 - Can't enable shared internet.

Do you know how I can change the access-rights of hackz so that I am able to share files again?

Sorry for a (maybe) bad english.

Thanks in advance - ding.

Well, the obvious question is, what did you change that stopped it working? Run ipconfig via a command prompt to check the IP addresses and gateway you've specified are being used (+subnet mask of 255.255.255.0). Can you then ping one computer from the other? (type ping 192.168.0.1 from hackz).

If that works, then you'll need to check that you've got file and printer sharing installed and enabled on both computers, and folders/drives shared on it.

Also, what is the make of switch you are using? Have you tried plugging the ADSL directly into a computer instead?

That's the weird thing. I can join on a server hackz created (e.g. HLDM) and I am able to DCC stuff using IRC.

If I ping hackz from ding it says Time out, though.

A few things I can think of

1)Did you somehow enable the Windows Firewall on Hackz/Ding?
2)Did you turn off File/Printer sharing? It should be present and checked in your LAN connection's properties>advanced tab.
3)Are they all on the same workgroup?

Could it be that your router isnt set up correctly?

I had a similar problem recently. It turned out that the IPs changed (I'm guessing when they renewed). My firewall was set to allow 192.168.0.100 from 192.168.0.101 and vice versa. All I had to do was set my firewall to allow both IPs. I hope that helps.
