Star Trek Enterprise is being canceled. It is IMO, on par with TNG and they are canceling it this year.

/Me wishes Juim were around to fill in the blanks.

Star Trek Enterprise is cancelled. This is because of lackluster ratings on the UPN network. I think Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are solely to blame, due to their lack of vision, and poor understandings of the sci-fi world. They started with DS9(decent, but no TNG by a long shot) Voyager(way not better than DS9), and finally Enterprise(slight improvement over Voyager). I feel their main problem was the writing. I tuned in to an episode once and was astounded that I was watching a blatant rip off of "Enemy Mine". It was at this point that I knew the franchise was in trouble. Now believe me, I want nothing more than to enjoy a good ST episode of any kind(and I tune in whenever I am off of work to Spike TV, they have TNG on twice a day in tha am), but for the last 15 years or so ST has been off and on.

Orph, I will poke around Paramount next time I am there and see whats on the horizon. I'll keep ya posted.

Ripped material or not, it was moving up in my esteem. perhaps its because i am a bakula fan i dunno, but i genuinely thought it had a future. it was a real shock when i heard. in fact, they are supposed to write riker and troy into the last two episodes somehow. maybe its like the zephram thing i dunno.

thanx for the heads up, and yes, please keep me posted.

i heard from my trekkie friend that enterprise kind of sucked compared to the other star trek series, but i guess its all opio nin which is the best.

He always updated the whole class on how much money trek united had gotten. [addsig]

I'm glad that lame dog is finally being put down, it has to be the worst Star Trek series of all time. They ruined the sequence when they went back in time instead of forward. If they'd done an even more futuristic series that could have been better. They also cast Scott Bakula in the lead role, why didn't they learn that he can't act from Tom Clancy's Net Force.

I'd have to say that the early seasons of DS9 were better than Voyager, but it really went down the s**tter from about half-way onwards. Voyager wasn't too bad at all, I quite enjoyed it, and it seemed to generally get better as it went along.

But the ultimate god of Star Trek is NG, I could sit down and watch every single one of those episodes again. An awesome cast of characters and actors (go Patrick Stewart) and probably some of the best episode writers of any sci-fi series.

While we're on the topic of sci-fi, does anyone watch Stargate SG-1? It seems they're winding the series down, which is a shame, and are replacing it with the new SG: Atlantis, which up till this point seems pretty good.

Enterprise was pretty poor, I'd say. Though it was somewhat intriguing to see a rougher, inexperienced starfleet, they kind of squandered it quickly. There were some interesting call-outs to the fans, but as I understand it they lost 90% of their audience. Not surprising it's been cancelled.

Stargate SG-1 was a good show but seems to have run its course. At least they've recognised that and are ending it soon. Atlantis I never really connected with the characters much, but we'll see how they get on next season.

The best SF on TV recently was the excellent Battlestar Galactica remake. Astounding how they could take a campy late-70s show and turn it into dark and punchy series with strong characters and plot. Well worth seeking out if you missed it. I can't wait until June for the next season.

I blame the theme tune, myself. But this being cancelled isn't really modern news- there was a huge campaign over the last few months to raise several millions of dollars to commission a new series, but Paramount still refused to make another series (and said they would even if the money was raised). Just read today too that there had been an Enterprise film planned, but it's now been thrown into the same bin as the series :/

Seems that I am the only one whom saw the true potential here. Filling in all the blanks would have been so nice.

Still, if the series's had been made in sequence, it might not have clouded so many people against Enterprise perhaps. You don't know how many people I hear whom constantly compare each series to TNG. It seems that absolutely no one but I can remember just how horrible the first couple of seasons were. TNG was great, but it had a horrible beginning, just like the rest.

I dunno, perhaps its just human nature to compare similarities between things. Most here keep measuring FPS games to HL. I take each game and compare it to... itself. I do the same with Trek. I feel Enterprise had the most potential because it did not have to follow the same rules. There was not as much technology, more people could have died from accidents. There could have been whole bunches of shows about the tech being discovered. There were so many planets in the federation. Some of them had to have not wanted to join in the beginning.

Anywho's, I have been a Trek fan since its inception, and look forward to the next installment. We have had a young Captain, an old one, a black one and a female one.. Whats next?

/me goes and sobs quietly in my room.

Entireprise started horrible but recently its been getting better, so it was the utmost irony when Enterprise became worth watching that it was getting canceled

or something like that

I wish they hadn't stopped showing TNG here :/ or TOS :/

I always liked Star Trek, but would never in a million years consider myself a trekkie. I never really saw the point in making so many series'. My review of the Star Trek world:

Original: A camp classic, I can watch those episodes and never tire of them.
Next Generation: Better than the original. Ran its course.
Deep Space Nine: East Enders in space. Lightyears from earth and all they do is hang out in bars, fix things and play darts.
Voyager: Nice baps.
Enterprise: Dear GOD! It just smacks of the American "WE'RE NUMBER ONE" attitude. And seemed to have a bit of the West Wing thrown in there too.

Baps are bread rolls. smiley

And Enterprise has been patchy. Sometimes it leaves you wanting more, and other times, you feel like never watching it again. Personally, I think it's not too far removed from Voyager - exploring new area of space, fit lycra-clad alien etc.

Orph, there were rumours that the Troi/Riker appearance was going to be on a Holodeck, and that Enterprise was all just one big simulation. Hopefully not though as that'd be one hell of a way to ruin it.
