I would imagine it would work as long as the port is free. Try putting -steamport 8080 into the console.

after the new update i cant connect to any server, it just says,
"couldnt connect to master game server to recieve server list" or
something like that, is it because of the port changeing thing?

Speaking of the steam update: Has anyone looked at the new map
dm_runoff. After playing it I must say that it not only does it look
like S***, its got a lot of bugs galore! (BTW this is my opinion, don't
get mad at me if you dont like it!)
Bugs list:
1) I read on the steam forums that you can jump onto a railing and get
out of the level. After testing it out it is easy to get out of the
level.
2) When you push the "air strike" button, you can ride the platform up, and call in more air strikes!
3) When the two blast doors come down (after you push the air strike
button) you can place barrels and non-destroyable physics props to stop
them from closing, eliminating the whole point of the air strike
entirely. There is a little option in func_door that says to push out
physics props at all costs when closing, they could have checked that!
The way it looks:
1) Poor texture choice, everything is in concrete and it makes it look dull.... where is it taking place? A dryed up canal????
2) There isnt anything interesting about the brush work of the level
either. Its al boxy. The placement of eveything seems random, I ask my
self why is there a train station lugage carryer in a canal?
I cant say much for gameplay as ive only looked at it, but from what Ive seen there would be nothing special about it.
All in all I have to say that you should at all costs stay away from
this map, and seek help if you think it looks good. I also heard that
it causes crashes on alot of servers, so lets not put it up on the
snarkpit server.

hidden?! where?
I like run off, team play is great on that map... trying to hold the
main room. But other then the air strike it dosn't feel ANYTHING
like crossfire.

Sorry to bump the thread, but it looks like the thing kinda went off-topic anyway.
A few places are listing the parameter as "-steamport <port>",
so presumably you can use whatever port you like. However, where the
hell does this parameter go? On the end of steam.exe or for a specific
game?

Ho ho ho, now Snarkpit finally realises what I've known for years... HL1 was a fluke good game, HL2 was s**te and Valve just got lucky. :P
