If you haven't heard already...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419706/

Half-Life 2 provides much better subject matter to convert into a film. Someone should start the project if no one has done so already.

I guess Valve is actively pursuing this option, but there's no takers yet.

IMO HL2 would make a horrible movie. Gordon Freeman talking would ruin it all. [addsig]

Virus takes place on a ship (or submarine or whatever) and never has blood and guts lyring around. It IS Event Horizon that he's thinking about ... Titan AE, is probably the other movie you're thinking of, which is a piece of s**t.

As far as I've seen, the Doom movie will be a lot like the game (Even in it's loosly based form). If I'm not mistaken, Doom 3 is the first doom where the villians are actually from hell. According to the (comic)books anyway. It'll be mindless action with the rock flipping out and killing people. What else is there to Doom? Nothing. So, it'll be interesting at the least. I don't understand why everyone will be pissed that they're changing things in a Doom movie ... there isn't much to go from. I mean, even books and comic books on the topic are "run through areas, find a new gun, continue killing". Don't know why no one understands that ...

Then again, ANYTHING can make a great movie, it's all about presentation of the ideas and plot (good dialog doesn't hurt either). [addsig]

Hah, they've got The Rock as Sarge in the Doom film, awesome <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> Wonder why someone's playing a pinky, and what Goat/Destroyer are?

The Rock, as far as I can gleam from this, is not sarge:

"Dwayne Johnson aka "The Rock" had more to say about the upcoming Doom film to Empire Online:

"I'm playing the commanding officer who, without ruining it for everyone, turns bad, which is great. I'm so excited about that movie, I'll tell you why. Number one, it's my first rated-R movie and it's a very unapologetic rated-R movie. Not only that, but the monsters are real, they're not CGI. They're made by Stan Winston who did Jurassic Park and Predator and all that. So the monster's got weight and when they're in a scene they're like Aliens! I get to transform and become, I'm going to tell you this right now, the BMFOTP. Know what that means? It means the baddest motherf***er on the planet.""

As for a HL2 movie... I heard that Valve has been approached with a bunch of screenplays and turned them all down (because they weren't good enough). Marc Laidlaw should just write the screenplay

But.. Why is he a foot note? Sarge is a key character in the game.

I remember reading an interview a long time ago where the Rock said he wasn't going to be playing the main character. I think they wanted a relatively unknown actor for that role. The Rock says he has a surprising role... and from that interview above we learn he's an antagonist.

That's what I said.

Nevermind apparently.

Morphine, look at the credits he is 'sarge' [main character] (as he's described it in other places then that one quote). I mean he's even the leading character in all the promotional shots for the movie. [addsig]

Ah. I didn't view the full credit listing, so didn't see his name on the movie. I just assumed he was credited by something other than "The Rock."

Even though The Rock is sarge... is sarge going to be the main character in the movie?

I dug this up: "There will be loads of shooting though, especially in the end where a large number of sequences will be shot purely in "first-person" perspective of the leading character (Karl Urban). The chainsaw and Bio Force Gun do appear in the film." Source http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/041203i.php

Appended: This shot is interesting: http://www.megagames.com/news/show.cgi?&idtype=movies&database=308&section=screens&

Who says he has to talk? All he has to do is have a beard, wear those glasses and shoot the s**t out of everything that moves. I'm sure if the director is worth a s**t, he could have Gordon not talk and make it cool it an artsy sort-of-way

Or... the director could actually work with the actors.

In the situations where there's a movie based on something and the author of that something is still alive and interested in the project, I don't understand why they don't utilize that person. They know the characters better then ANYONE and can easily work with the actors (a shining example of this is Sin City. Wonder why all the actors protrayed their characters so well? Frank Millar was the acting director)

But then again, most hollywood studios just want an initial money flow from a name. Die Hard 4 is an example. It's not even about McClaine or anything, so why is it called die hard? Money.

Doom Movie: I suppose there's so many different "sources" on this monster of a project. Personally, I think it'll be entertaining. About as entertaining as the game anyway. [addsig]
