I recently was told about the Page Down (or pgdn for short) trick. I first saw it in some DM map but never knew how to do it. I'm pretty sure the same thing can be done in the HL2SP but haven't tried it yet.

For those of you who DON'T know what the pgdn trick is, it is when you bind your 'Page Down' key on your keyboard to 'Last Weapon Used'. you can do this through the console or the in-game options. You then get on top of an object light enough for the the grav gun to manipulate and hold down both the pgdn key (which is binded to last weapon used) and your fire button (most likely your left mouse button) simultaneously. You will rocket yourself into the air.

Some of you are probably like....yeah? So? I've known about that since HL2 has been released, whats the big dilly-oh?! Well, I'm sure SOME folks haven't...and I made a small vid to show an example of some of the fun you can have with the pgdn trick. My example doesn't exploit all the cool things you can do with it, but it shows more about what I am talking about for those of you still going...WTF is this guy blathering on and on about.

Interresting. I never knew that. I dont play HL2 multiplaer. I hear its fun.. I am a Day of Defeat and CounterStrike player more, in that order.. but since DOD Source has not yet been released I am having to play CS:S more.

I will have to go find a hl2 Server and try that trick later.

A question about the map you were on.. did you map that?

That would be a negative. I made the vid only...not the map. It is made by Black Sheep (whover that is) and can be basically only found on 'The One and Only Doghouse' Server. It is version 4 of the map. They keep releasing a new beta like every couple of weeks. [addsig]

Good choice! I'm so lame I just might! I just grabbed an mp3 lyin around on my comp...

edit: It is actually Ride of the Valkyries. And yes there is no point to me showing I sniped someone besides the point that it is always fun to do.

Hehe, i've known this trick for a while. Several times it got me killed but it once got me on the roof of the highest building on overwatch where I could take people out one by one with the crossbow without them knowing where the darts came from .

Well, guess what folks...I have officially outdone myself in pointlessness. I have added the option of downloading the same video with either Prodigy or Wagner as the music background. Yeah you know you like it.

The pgdn trick does not work in HL2.....why would that be? What could be different about the dm and sp engine that would not allow that? Does this mean Valve knew about this from the start and just kept it in for DMers to find out? [addsig]

After reading this, my son just had to see it in action. Yes, it works in HL2DM just fine. At least it does in a LAN game. Our next frag we will have to see if it can be done with both of us ingame. smiley

My one and only question is, why does it have to be the "PGDN" button? I have my 5th mouse set to last weapon, yet it fails to give the effect. I had to reset it to the page down button to get it functional.

Yes....it works in HL2DM just fine....but not HL2(as in HL2SP).

The reason is has to be the pgdn button, is, for some reason, it apparently allows rapid entry. Dunno why exactly though.

Garry's mod recently switched to HL2Dm code for "greater efficiency" which means there's different stuff going on behind the scenes.

I'm not sure what, but it doesn't surprise me that some things work and HL2DM that won't in SP. For 1, I think the physics engine is dummed down in MP games, to increase performance. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Also the quick swith button (defult Q for all you WASD users) is in both SP and MP, I think they just made the switch faster so the player didn't have to wait 3 seconds to pull out a new wepon.

btw that video is great! the music just made it super cool.

Just tried this, its pretty funn. You can get over top of the buildings and hit the sky at the top on pretty much any map.

The reason that it doesn't work in HL2SP is that for multiplayer they changed it in an update so that the gravity gun pulls out instantaneously. in SP it takes about 1 second (or however long the draw anim is) to pull out the grav gun, so it switches to the last weapon before you get a chance to shoot, unlike the MP grav gun.

But the core of the trick - having pgdn as lastinv and when you hold it it keeps switching uber-fast, this works on every source mod I've tried so far (Hand probably any game period) because windows modifies the behavior of that key so you don't have to keep pushing it you can just scroll fast by holding it.

Someone should try binding the Page Dn key to fire, and then see how fast the pistol shoots.

I would try this myself but I'm downloading CS (to check out cs_thunder).

Also -- I don't have CS:S installed but can someone try it with the dual elites? I'm sure they'll fire extremely fast.

You used to be able to make a bind with the scroll button to shoot real fast with the elites. but they fixxed it.
