So which upcoming console do you think will be most appeasing to you?
I can't believe how amazing the graphics on the PS3 look. It's also the only thing so far that actually ran Unreal 3 smoothly. Check out Killzone 2 and the new Tekken.

I don't tend to base things on looks, but the XBox 360 looks like a
souped up breeze block and the Playstation 3 looks like a certain
well-known boxer's grill. The Revolution isn't without fault either,
looking suspiciously bland. The one thing I am impressed by is the
number of features on the XBox 360 - downloading updates for games,
playing media etc. All very impressive stuff. At the end of the day
though, it'll probably be the Revolution for me, partially because of
the backwards compatibility with my GameCube games.

advantage, but I dunno really...Id have to go with ps3 because read
somewhere its backward compatable with ps2 AND ps1 games.

Where's the option for those of us who think consoles blow chunks?
even if its a lark, you should always include an option for people who may not find your choices acceptable. :/

Never have and never will like the playstation... I'm more content with the Xbox, knowing that when its all chipped and hacked to bits it becomes a mean bean super computer with amazing potential. Plus I kinda like Microsoft, I dont see the big deal with them- at least they offer an OS which is half decent and normal people can use.

Actually blister I think you'll find the game variety on consoles to be bigger than that of PC's... And the games tend to be more fun, I've had enough of 1st person shooters now, I'm content with the current selection. Consoles have good racing games, and you guys are all neglecting the point in consoles! Your all cave dwelling PC users, Consoles are a very sociable thing, invite your friends over, have a beer, play Burnout 3 on your Xbox etc. Its not the same as PC's...

Blister, consoles are cheaper than PC's, not more expensive. You find a
brand new PC able to play games well as the Xbox for ?100 and I'll be
impressed. As myrk said, they also offer a far wider range of games.
Fair enough there aren't many TBS or RTS games flying around for them,
but pretty much every other genre is covered. Actually there ARE even a
fair few new TBS games for consoles (Disgaea, La Pucelle Tactics,
Phantom Brave, Atelier Iris, Stella Deus, Dynasty Tactics, Romance of
the Three Kingdoms), and a few RTS hyrbids (Kingdom Under Fire, Kessen).
Out of the new consoles, I'm really a 360 man. My Xbox is my favourite
of the current generation, and with Live it really has nailed how to do
online gaming for consoles. With Project Gotham Racing 3 (the second
game was online racing nirvana) and DOA4 they have their typically high
standard racing and beat em up launch slots filled, and Blue Dragon,
Lost Oddysee, Oblivion and whatever Square might have (besides the,
lets face it, not very impressive news they are bringing over FFXI, a
PS2 game for gods sake) appear to give a wider range of RPG's than the
Xbox offered for quite some time. Frame City Killer looks like it could
just about shape up to be a Shenmue style wandering adventure with hand
to hand combat (though the shooting sections looked AWFUL in the video
I saw). Ghost Recon 3 looks beautiful and atmospheric, Gear of War runs
on the Unreal 3 engine so enough said really, and with another FPS
adventure coming from the CoR:Escape From Butcher Bay developer, I
think that offers a pretty decent array of action games. Factor in what
sounds like an MMO racing game from an experience developer (Test Drive
Unlimited), Need For Speed going back to its old police chase days with
style (NFS: Most Wanted, just watch the video
), A Kingdom Under
Fire/Dynasty Warriors/Kessen style game from the developers of the
first game listed (Nighty Nine Nights), and much more besides, and
there is plenty there to keep most people occupied. The system itself
looks ok, and better vertical than horizontal (which is a shame given
that with the PS2, that apparently did damage to the drive) in my
opinion. Wireless controllers are a major plus point for me since all
mine tend to break at the wires, and the controllers themselves seem to
be very nice and address most people's complaints about the old ones
(giant Xbox logo, black and white buttons being crap). Backwards
compatability isn't really too clear at this point due to the wording
in the conference ("it will be backwards compatible with the top
selling xbox games"....hmmm), but even if it is only for limited
titles, its still a plus point. My Xbox has, unfortunately, a Thompson
drive and crashes frequently, so if I can get one in November and not
have to put up with the crashes in some of my older titles, I'll be a
happy man.
Of course the PS3 press conference really "pwned" the 360 one when it
came to stats and demos, even if it did somewhat fall behind in terms
of the presentation (poor speakers (well English wasn't most of their
first languages so its understandable), very standard stage design,
lots of boring sections, etc...). The Killzone and MotorStorm videos
really did look too good to be true, and for most people, thats how
they are taking it. The guy did say before the videos rolled that they
are all real time, but they really did look prerendered in terms of
visual quality and smoothness of animation. If they turn out to be real
time, and the games ACTUALLY look like that when they hit the shelves,
I'll quite possibly jump ship and get one of these instead
By
mentioning sequels to all their big hitters, including recent games
like GT4, DMC3, Tekken5 and MGS3, they will really pull in many many
consumers. I'd be amazed if many of them appear in the first few months
of the PS3's release though, and if they do I wouldn't expect much from
such short development periods. Oh of course I almost forgot about the
console itself - ewwwwww. There was one cropped frontal screenshot I
saw that made it look almost exactly like a NES! I really dislike their
design for it, with the indented section for the disk looking really
awkward and old. Less said about that new controller design the better
too!
The Nintendo press conference video stream was f**king up for me so I
didn't bother to watch much of it. Their new Gameboy looks tragically
small to me, and I can't begin to imagine how most games will be
playable on such a tiny screen. I guess their handhelds normally do
well, so it will most likely be a decent seller. The Revolution
probably LOOKS the best out of the new consoles, and being backwards
compatible with apparently ALL their old systems is quite an
acheivement. Quite how this will be managed - apparently by downloading
them and putting them on discs or something - isn't clear, but if its
possible thats one hell of a selling point. Of course the fact is I
have an N64 and SNES sat in my living room, and NEVER play them, so I
think for me at least this is a feature that sounds cool, but will
never be used. Since this is only early days for the Revolution and it
won't be out for a long while, there weren't any games mentioned that I
know of, so how they stand on this front is yet to be seen. No doubt
they will offer a pretty decent selection of first party titles, but
will third party developers be willing to support them after the
gamecube?
EDIT: Holy crap that was long. I can't imagine anybody actually reading, but nevermind

Example of console vs PC prices...
x-box 360 has 3 3.2g CPUs...
the x-box 360 will sell for ~$300 (IIRC)
to buy those same CPUs for a PC, it'll cost around $750...

I wont be getting any cos I preffer the older consoles especially the SEGA ones and seen as how SEGA isnt making any more consoles that means I wont be buying any more consoles unless there are enough games to tempt me to get one which is what the GC has nearly done.

Jezus H Christ Duncan, I got plumb wore out just trying to read all that. I bet you got just as tired typing it all.
I, being poor, will gladly stick with my PC's and their paltry attempts at game competitiveness thank you very much. I cannot even imagine trying to keep up with the Joneses and buying consoles too.

PS3 has a few nice games in store (MGS4, Devil May Cry amongst others).
I wonder if all those pre-renders they're throwing around really are
indicative of the console's power (which I doubt, but I like to
beleive). It's also a damned ugly console. Looks like a bloody grill.
Revolution's backwards compatibility (a large "holy s**t!" from
myself), as well as looking sleeky and shiny as f**k, gets the win from
me. Plus we get Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. I just hope they reveal
these super secret control pads they've got cooking ASAP.
Xbox 360 looks like it's been sat on. "Deep Breath" my arse, it's a
squashed pillow bathed in liquid nitrogen. Perfect Dark Zero is not
enough for me to shell out for a brand new console.
Revolution wins for now; a definate on-the-day purchase.
Might get
PS3, but 360 looks unlikely unless they get some more interesting games.
btw, did any of them release details on games being released with the console?

Xbox 360 will apparently have Project Gotham Racing 3, FFXI, Kameo, and
Perfect Dark 0, but I don't know what else. I'd wager DOA4 might be
since the third was for the Xbox, but since DOA:Ultimate hasn't been
finished for all that long I guess I might be hoping for too much. They
have said they are on target to have 25-40 games available in the first
three months of the console's life, which is a very respectable number.
Since Nintendo haven't mentioned any games for their system, there is
obviously no info on release titles. PS3, as far as I know, haven't
mentioned any release titles either.

Processors are more than their clock speed, and don't forget that this thing isn't out yet- when you get a hold of one of these things next year, 1mb of L2 cache in a 3ghz chip won't be state of the art, or cost a vast amount.

This year actually, its out in November
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> Your point still stands of
course - its not comparable to buying 3 single 3.2Ghz chips. Not that
that detracts from the fact that consoles are cheaper than a
comparabaly powered PC.
