I listen to anything by Silicone Soul and then start planning, often with an idea that springs to mind. Odd method, but it works (sort of - I've yet to release a decent map, but I'm hopeful).

I listen to music, think of all the good maps that are far surperior to what I can make and then I get angry so I start mapping a corridor or a room and I go 'Hmmmm pretty cool, lets make it into a level' and so I carry on with that...
At the moment I am doing what my leader says because I was asked to make a graveyard so that is what I am currently doing...

I find what I like best about the maps I like to play, then I figure out how to lay the map out so that it tries to embody some of the best traits that I like. I draw it out on paper and then get to it.

Whoopseh... ha, shoulda searched. Sorry 'bout that.
Anyways, thanks for the replies! I've been trying to both tweak a couple layouts that I think could be fun if something was different and also come up with new ones, but I've been stuck. I do find that my best artistic work comes from when I've had proper sleep/nourishment, not 20+ hours into my "day" and last eaten 10 hours ago...

I never get inspired when I have free time, only when I have a 7 page paper breathing down my neck.

Actually not.. If someone brings up a long dead topic, "just because' then yeah, they will most likely get burned for it, but if the reply is totally relevant then usually it just picks up once again.
There is a 6 month cutoff for "general" forum replies.. so even if you wanted to, you cannot revive a thread older than its last reply of ">6" months.
If someone did harass someone who revived a post with a relevant reply, I would harass them in turn. " SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">
