It made me laugh. The struggle is down to this now!
One point i need to make: its obviously an OLD OLD OLD bug, Sinn Fein found this one a while back but I doubt it was being used, considering the current technology though. Still, good bit of memorabilia.

it says there that Adams returned the device to Blair a few days later, which would mean that the ebay sale must have been a hoax.

They moved the auction to their own site, http://www.sinnfeinbookshop.com/ as ebay management removed it. Which SUCKS, since it won't get the publicity it needs to sell well. Current highest ?3000. (shoulda said it was a haunted MI5 device or it looks a bit like Pope John Paul II).
I don't blame ebay.com for taking this step, they don't want to be in the middle of something like this, but I've a feeling it will now be a damp squib, thanks to the auction being hidden on such a low profile site. (I've yet to hear any news about it over here, of all places!) This wouldn't be the first time the media jump to British pressures. It should at LEAST have been an 'and finally' story, for its shear novelty and shamelessness, but it isn't.
This might be the first signs of the British government shafting my community again, which usually requires big explosions to get a mention on the news. :
I hope not. I kind of liked the peace, although it had certain drawbacks.

Yes, obviously the British government has pressured eBay into taking this off it's listings
Personally I find it quite funny that Sinn Fein are getting desperate enough for funds to sell this sort of thing.

Can You fill this Yankee in, sorry im not up to date on all your Brittish history.
I saw the auction just before it was taken down. It was a piece of the floor board with a device carved into it on the underside. Looked like several silver tubes a hole where the mic was located and a black box area that I am sure ws the recording section.. the silver tubes looked like batteries. and then there was a cut cable that ran off to one edge. They also included a document of some sort telling what the thing was or something like that.

that sounds like war has been declared again

"I Ran Away" thing on the streets, untill the outnumbered SDLP get laughed out of home rule. Then the power cuts etc.
FFS fishy, Do i LOOK like I'm issuing a declaration of war mate?
Probably not, and hopefully the novelty topic that I started with, but in my opinion it could end up with history repeating; smash stormont; etc etc. You're almost as mixed up in this s**te as I am, being scottish. Fair enough it just means beatings and the odd killing over there, but I for one don't want the old s**t to happen again.
I'm just edgy as hell, and, being Northern Irish have an innate contempt for media and politicians.
[edit] sorry, moneyshot and leperous, I actually didnt see these posts and only read the fishmeisters
Moneyshot: If you consider the fact that the British government used to monitor Sinn Fein houses, cars, etc as well as the IRA, its evidence of British surveilennce. Personally, in my humble opinion it looks like it predates the peace process so I don't see that it holds any real political significance. In otherwords, its an ancient bug, prolly from the mid 1990s which has long ran out of power.
Leperous: A little manifesto if you will...
I don't personally give a flying f**k who owns my country right now on a personal basis.
Politically, however, I favour Ireland, then I'd argue for all countries to run themselves, then all towns, etc. (In short, I'd rather my leader within kicking distance)
Personally, and in reality, that won't happen in my lifetime (unless I live to 100, you never know)
The IRA don't get blind support from people now (well, in some quarters of celtic and rangers people they do) because of a united Ireland. Most people that I know haven't a notion of Irish history even in the 20th Century. We were essentially treated like black people (the old english signs "NO BLACKS, NO DOGS, NO IRISH" put in bars and B&Bs across Britiain) and at every step throughout what is now called the 'struggle' the British government as shafted us, heaven forbid actually treating us like equals.
WE ARE NOW EQUALS.
My mum and dad couldn't get jobs because in their education page of their CV it said "St." somewhere. These AREN'T scare stories, this is the reality.
The IRA have pretty much equalled the atrocities which the British Government, RUC (PSNI) and their surrogate/aided loyalist movements have over the years.
Both sides are c**ts. You just think cause you're English we want FRRRRREEEEDOOOOMMMMM like the movies (OK, Scottish) but the real fact is that we would have been either like Palistinians or some third world country (yes, the evacuation of my community was readily considered (CAVEAT: I do need to check the prime minister and time for it, I THINK it was 1970s, It was on the news after the freedom of information act got some balls.)
I'm not even going to say "oooh you don't know what it's like" because, to be honest, nor do I. It was bombing and killing of people (a hell of a lot innocent, its not something I love) that made the governments act eventually, not greater morals etc (Amnesty and other humanitarian groups where on them from the start).
I just want to be an equal, I don't want to go back to that stuff again, with a new generation of people killing and being killed because the 'enemy's' message is simply ignored.
