I made a Snarkpit group at Audioscrobbler in case someone's interested. Would be fun to see what the snarkpitters listen to.

For those who doesn't know what Audioscrobbler is:

? quoting http://www.audioscrobbler.com/
Audioscrobbler builds a profile of your musical taste using a plugin for your media player (Winamp, iTunes, XMMS etc..). Plugins send the name of every song you play to the Audioscrobbler server, which updates your musical profile with the new song. Every person with a plugin has their own page on this site which shows their listening statistics. The system automatically matches you to people with a similar music taste, and generates personalised recommendations.

So, all you need to do is go to audioscrobbler sign up, download the plugin for whatever program you're using to play music and then go to http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/Snarkpit and join the group.

That should be clear enough

[edit]
Your profile will look something like this: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/OtZman/

If a group has more then 10 members there will also be stats generated for that group.

Just downloaded the innocuous plugin and its been tracking my music promptly and invisibly for the past hour. I really like this thing!! It's nice to see stats like this.

People -- do this!

10th member of the group, so we should be getting stats now.

On a vaguely related topic, does anybody know how to stop WinAmp opening the visualisation every time you start to play a track? It's getting really irritating.

Great <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Now just keep those tunes pumping <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Loco, if you hit Alt+O and check "Visualization" under "Plug-ins". Perhaps you can make it stop by stopping the visualization plug-ins there?

Not quite, but I finally found the solution. Select plug-ins and then uncheck "auto-execute visualisation plug-in". I don't remember checking it in the first place, but there we are. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Thanks for the help though.

Cmon guys, I know there are more than 12 of us at the pit that listen to music on our computers frequently.

Agreed. Front page news post material maybe? Having said that, the only reason I can use it at the moment is thanks to an always-on school connection. Next week my page will never be updated. Perhaps the problem is those with 56k modems? Although I always thought a majority of people here had broadband.

I thought about posting this as front page news, but was afraid of getting hated for posting non mapping related news, so it ended as a profile news.

Admins, would it be ok to post about this on the front page?

Stats have now been generated for the group. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/Snarkpit

The charts show how many different group members who listened to a given song/artist in the past week, that's why the numbers may appear low.

I'm afraid I skewed those results just a bit by forcing my music on those who frequent the IRC channel. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
