I personally use www.doom9.org but to each their own as they say.

try the Gordian Knot codec pack.

you can always google search for newest codecs.

I also strictly use viplay to watch movies with.

I thought this topic came up before, and the answer is to use G-spot that identifies all codecs.

Now THIS would be a God send. Care to elaborate Satch?

He has before. There was an entire thread where everyone spouted how to get good codecs and find out which ones you need.

And I hate ViPlay, bloated, just like the new Media Players. Media Player Classic is alright, it's very simple and small.

[edit]
or perhaps not. weird.

Anyway, if you're playing an AVI and windows or any other player on your computer bitches: It's Divx. You can grab a divx codec which is separate from the player here.

Just get the latest codecs from a site (search on google and there will be sites listing all codecs you'll ever need really) and play it with anything but wmp... WMP seems to skip every 10 seconds slightly, not very good with video really.

or perhaps... most don't care.

I fell in love with ViPlay from day 1 and have used it ever since. Its got what I need/want.

/story.

Still doesn't answer, what is G-Spot?

Or perhaps that comment wasn't meant towards you. ViPlay is still not a great player. In any case, he was asking about codecs.

G-Spot is a program in which tells you the codecs you need to play whatever video/ audio file. It also tells you if you have any codecs installed that can play that file.

I know there was another thread that covered all of this not too long ago.

I believe you Crono, need I remind you that I am gone for days at a time?

I don't mean to rehash this, I will seek out the other thread... If I can figure out the keywords :P

VLC media player has eaten everything I've thrown at it, even stuff that WMP wouldn't play.

I have WinAmp, and DivX, and there has not been a movie I cant watch yet.. Im assuming this is because most of the codecs are built into the two.

Now I refuse to watch any Real Time flick.. Real Time is da Debil! THE DEBIL!

If you're looking for a streamlined player, you can't get much more streamlined than mplayer. It has a windows port, but that's command line only (you can still associate files with it, so that it simply plays the files).

I enjoy it. It seems to have a decent codec support base. The only common file I've found it doesn't like are realmedia files. Which sucks.

And that's why you get a Non-Official RealMedia codec .... Like this one:
