It's truly revolutionary and soundly based on hard science, as you can discern from reading the article.

I can't wait to put Half-Life and Half-Life 2 to the test. I think it actually might do fairly well, as I can't remember seeing any crates or barrels at the train station.

hl: 45 seconds from when you can move, dont even make it past the 3rd train "room".

hl2: 35 seconds from when you can move, most of which is time spent rolling into the station, out of the train doors is about 5 seconds.

I think the main exercise here is that both hl and hl2 are choc-full of crates. You can't make it 5 minutes without seeing one.

Valve talks about crates in "Raising the Bar" - while they were worried about being original, it really wasn't worth all the effort, so they just threw a crate there on purpose.

I think crates are a big problem in multi player maps. Like think about Dust, or italy... you would never find crates stacked like that in real life. All these crazy maps that are full of crates are just a staple to the lazyness of mappers, I for one NEVER use crates unless its some kind of depo map where crates would be.

Sounds like a common case of "crateophobia"...

Comments:
Kevin: Considering that 99% of all crates are empty or contain less than 5 pounds of material, why is it that almost always I can't pick the crate up, like in the old 2D games, and smash it over somebody's head? In fact, when I even try to move the crate, it's like I'm Thor trying to lift the earth, and my big muscleman character is barely able to slide it over the ground.

Oh my God that is funny. Got me laughin <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">.

I like the point about how these huge crates only have one or two items in them.

Tyrian has no crates or barrels except for a reference to "the holy casks of Zinglon" in the bonus game "Zinglon's Ale".

I'm under the impression that Black Mesa is actually a giant crate factory since all the storage areas are completely filled with empty crates.

I'm not sure about crates, but barrels are a very old inheritance from wolfenstein 3d. Yes, folks, we have been seeing those damn things for almost 10 years!

Look closer; there's bound to be some hiding down there .

And, speaking of crates, me thinks it's that time again:
