Check your BiOS settings, see if everythings timed correctly, you can usually get to it by pressing the delete key when your computer first turns on.

Shouldn't this be part of the recently borked thread? But yer Omega Slayer is right- instal the right drivers for everything, then fiddle in bios with the multipliers. Best check online to see how fast you should make it- don't wanna overclock it too much just in case.

two reasons

1) Bus speed isn't set properly, it's probably on some default.

2) The clock speed on 64-Bit chips is significantly lower since they have mainly pipelined processing. So, actual operation speed is NOT a good indication of their performance speed.

Just match up the chip with the board on the manufacturer site and it'll tell you what speed to set your BUS to in Bios. Not a big deal really.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

My 64-bit 3000+ shows up in dxdiag as 2.0GHz, but it performs much much faster than this. Having said that, 1.04GHz does sound incredibly slow for a 64-bit, so yeah, check your bios

For reference, multipliers are locked and you cant change them.

I thought on some motherboards you can change the bus speeds, like ABIT mobo's. I'm not enitrely sure though.

Bus speed and multipliers are seperate things though Sloth. As you say however, you can still change one or both on some motherboards. Not sure if some CPU's (such as the 64-bit AMD's) are multiplier locked and unable to be changed with any mobo...I haven't looked into it since I can't afford one <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Its most likely your power supply

You need somethign like 15A on the 12v rail.

Your 3200+ should be running at 2.2 or 2.0 depending on which flavor you have. (Probaly 2.2, as the 2.0s are rare)

My 3500+ runs at 2.2 stock...

As for board settings, I think my Asus A8V can change both settings but I am not sure, nor do I wanna particularly know since it may tempt me to do silly things to get a marginal speed increase.

As previously mentioned..

1)BE sure exactly what speed the chip is supposed to run.

2)Be certain your chip is not already running at that speed as sometimes you get a false reading. I am sure their is a program that will say for certain. (steam loads HL2 and says clearly what speed your machine is running for instance)

3) check your bios (most machines it is the DEL key, but check your manufacturer as some are the F? keys)

4) DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS FOR ANY REASON unless you are desperate and have no other recourse!!!!!!!

good luck.

not always. HL2 once said i had 5 CPUs running at 10 ghz and some innsane amount of RAM. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

According to AMD, the FX-series processors do not have locked multipliers. No idea if this would imply to the 64 4000 as this was originally the FX53.

Any motherboard BIOS will allow you to change both the FSB speed and the multiplier, but if the processor is locked, then uppon reboot, the multiplier value will have returned to default.

The Front Side Bus has it's speed defined by a quartz crystal. The processor has it's speed defined by the FSB times the multiplier value of the processor.

For example, my AMD Athlon XP 2500+ runs at 1.8Ghz on an Abit NF7-S motherboard with a 166Mhz FSB. My multiplier is locked at 11x. So,

(FXB)x(multiplier)=(processor speed)
(166)x(11)=(1826Mhz)

Set your Bios to 200mhz. If its not set in bios look at your board there maybe a jumper you need to remove or move to set your system board too 200mhz.

Default is 100mhz on most boards. I had the same problem, and that fixed it.

I got it fixed....On the mobo was a button to reset the cmos to default because my monitor wouldnt turn on.....and it worked and is running at 2.04ghz now!
