My friend and I are connected to a router were having problems when i make a css game on lan he can see it but when we try to access the internet it doesnt work, but when we just have a computer connected to the modem without the router we can access the internet . how can i fix this problem??

I'm assuming by "accessing the internet" you mean within steam and normal browser stuff works fine, right?

Well, you need to foreward the ports Steam needs.

UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive

and

UDP 1200 for friends usage.

Now im meaning accessing the browser, and aim , and steam and everything..

Plug the modem into the router, then. Or if you can't do that, plug the modem into one of your computers (which are still linked with the router) and enable internet connection sharing on it.

modems do not automatically communicate with the router. you need to get out your paperwork that has your internet password and whatnot..

get also, the paperwork that tells you how to log in as an admin onto your own router system.

under the admin page, will be a tab that allows you to add said username and password.. do so.

save and retry to use the internet.

I cannot recall all the details involved, but i am certain this is your trouble.. look into the admin section of your router documentation..

That wasn't the problem. He IMed me and he didn't really ask any questions. He changed it with another router, go figure. But apparently he was messing with forewarding ports when it stopped working. Which he didn't mention.

I hate it when someone screws the pooch, then act as if it just borked on'em.
