Anyone else think this is a Valve version of snarkpit?

It might have been a Valve version of the snarkpit if I could edit your post and make it say zOMG SPANK THE MONKEY LOL.
It's a nice idea . But I think there are going to be a lot of I'm-not-a-n00b mappers/modellers/coders who'll be running around editing things before understanding what's happening properly. I suppose it shouldn't make too much trouble if the original article authors maintain it properly, but with mappers leaving for jobs and real-life stuff all the time, it may be tough :/

Its more like....well....a wiki
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> Therefore its really more like the HL2 World wiki than the snarkpit
I think its a nice enough idea, but from reading the comments section it is just being left up to the community, which kinda detracts from the "official" quality of it. If submitted things are checked over by somebody (like they are here) then I guess it could be good.

It's cos they're both using the same Wiki software, MediaWiki. It's the same software that's behind Wikipedia.
As a long-term Wikipedia user, I like the idea. Even if Valve don't do much/any adding of stuff themselves, having an "official" stamp on it makes it more likely to be used than the other HL2-related wikis.

Nothing is like the SnarkPit. Not only do we have professional
mappers who work in the industry, but we also have this sense of
comraderie that's hard to cultivate in a big commercially sponsored
site.
I've been to other mapping communities before, but they're far too commercial. Without Lep's hard work and TLC, SnarkPit would just be another one of those pay-as-you-go type of site or something that's overrun by annoying flashing ads about the next Splinter-Cell game.
Man, how else would I be able to waste hundreds of hours on the internet?

Yeah, snarkpit is more of a small community, here are main people who talk and help and so on and they mostly keep together.
In hl2world it is just a random spamming around... I prefer more those community-type places. Although wikies are cool, they aren't so commune-like.

I don't think Valve likes the idea of mapping sites like this one, to be honest- though I think it's more about stopping misinformation being spread, than jealousy
And yes, I agree about the community feel - there are these sad little nooks and crannies that you have to hide in, and it's the same with Wikipedia - though I hope they address this, as Wikis are quite a funky idea.
