Recently, when I've been playing BF2, it's given me errors -- "Your
CD-Key is already in use" etc. etc. -- when I try to join multiplayer
games. I want to change my CD-Key to get rid of this
problem. I know I can do it by reinstalling the game, but I don't
want to lose my progress or my controls (pain in the ass to change).
I'm pretty sure I just have to change the numbers in a registry file or something along those lines, but I can't find the file.
Anybody happen to know how I can do this?

On a separate note, does BF2 have a single-player campaign? To my understanding, it's a multiplayer game only, kind of like Unreal Tournament.

I was going to ask the same question - you shouldn't ever be "changing"
your CD key when you reinstall; you will have a CD key provided with
your copy of the game which you should always use. If you own a
legitimate CD key and you are getting "key is in use" errors, then
rather than using a keygen or whatever to work around your problem (and
thereby "passing the buck" onto some other poor legitimate owner), you
should try and get in touch with customer support who can possibly help
with your problem. Then again, BF2 was published by EA right?
As for keeping your key config and campaign progress, you should back able to make backups of your config and save files easily enough.

I did purchase a legit copy, and I knew it would sound suspicious so I tried to word it the least-suspiciously that I could.
Satchmo - Yes, it has a singleplayer, but not really a campaign. You just play the maps with bots.
ReNo - I was trying to avoid talking to tech support because I just plain don't like human interaction, and tech support people tend to be dumbasses. However, I'll take it up with them.

It's the same thing as 1942, which was just the same maps with bots.
You kind of have to take it up with EA since it checks with the MP servers to see if the key is on the level ... are you sure you didn't register the key already?

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

French - You could probably just do it all through email if you aren't
keen on talking to them through the phone. We all know what tech
support people are like
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> That said, you may well just get
standardised replies back, but even that might be of some use to you.

French Toast, all of your progress and config will be saved in your My
Documents folder. When you uninstall the game it will give you the
option to keep these files or to remove them. So you can re-install
without losing any of your settings/progress.
