Think again. I have read/listened to all five. Nothin official has been proclaimed by either. They do however get really annoyed when the other does particular things. You'd think they were already married. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

I have noticed an oddity and /me wonders if its an Americanized thing. All the Potter books I have bought have American distances and measures. There are no metrics anyplace in my books. The locations are still British enough I suppose, considering I wouldn't recognize a false location if my life depended on it but, why are the measurements all in SAE?

Anyone else notice this?

NOTE: SAE = Standard American Equivalent

most of britain, orph, still use miles for long distances. theres a mixture of metric and SAE over here so rowling could just be using what she is used to.

oh and a while ago they used SAE but switched over to metric some time.

I can think of another place HP uses non-metric measurements - when Harry is being "fitted" for his wand in book 1, the wands are measured in inches. And that definitely was in the UK edition.

Miles for distances and pints for beer (though, confusingly, not the same size pints as used in the US) are still standard in the UK. Inches are still pretty widespread in non-technical uses, though I can't speak for people younger than me (who probably didn't grow up with both systems being used).

I'm a masochist and took a peak anyway.
I have haven't even read half the book yet but I figured as much without this spoiler. It's enough to hear all those people crying "OMG you'll never believe who dies!" to get suspicions.

Silly, they have to make one movie per year to attempt to be "in time" with the books. I doubt it will be anywhere near 2030. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">

However, why is it you can type English, visit a predominantly English speaking website and yet, spoken English is mumbojumbo?

Do not written and spoken go hand in hand? Hell, I always thought you could learn to talk it long before you wrote it. :/

I wouldn't say that they do Orph. I'm not much cop are foreign languages, but when learning french I think it was quite a bit easier to digest written words than spoken ones. Speech has accent and it also dictates the speed, whereas with written words you don't need to "keep up" or battle with somebody's way of talking. It most likely does depend on the person a bit though, I'm sure some find it easier to pick up spoken words than written ones.

Strange. All I really had to deal with as a child was Spanish. I grew up in Phoenix and it was the second language of choice there. Speaking it was many times easier than writing it..

Oh well.. I was just thinking that since damned few member here are that poor in written English, I assumed that they had the rudimentary of spoken.. Accents aside, we can still listen and understand each other in other words.

I have listened to people from Germany, Scotland, England, The Netherlands, etc,etc, and all that really caused issues was the accent, not the words. Most slur words or speak gutturally.

Anywho's.. The audio book is available and I can point you in its direction.. Its up to you to want it, its not up to me to deliver it.
