@Crono, I dont think its really a problem if people want flashy stuff.

I have a problem when the popular "need" for "pimpin' s**t" turns everything into flashy/crappy stuff. Like cell phones, sure all those neat features are nice, but when I ask for a phone with a dot-matrix screen, contact list, and one game (snake) I cant get that, I have to get a web/camera phone with 3,000 ring tones...

Anyone know how much over 120 keys with screens on them is gunna cost? I think for the sake of using your memory, a normal keyboard is fine. And tbh I never look at my keyboard anyway.

I think the looking at your keyboard isn't much of an argument. The only reason you don't look at your keyboard is because you have no reason too, you've memorized every key. But if you can make a custom keyboard for any application, you're going to be looking at and using your keyboard differently.

Not sure if I got my point across...

I dont know, in photoshop for instance if I dont know a short cut key, I would rather keep my eyes on the screen then look down and find a button on my key pad.

then once you memorize your key short cuts you never look at them again.

It would be usefull for codeing but again, once you know what each key does there is not point to look down at it.

I don't really see much use in it for programming - you program in ASCII, so a standard key layout is all you could really want I'd have thought?

Maybe for IDEs, I use a few different ones and can never remember whether to hit Ctrl+F5, F6, or Shift+F8 to do "build & execute".

Come to think of it, a keyboard with programmable-image function keys would be a good start (and probably cheaper to make).

I remember reading an old PCW article in the eighties that said by now, we'd all be using touch-sensitive slate-PC type things that displayed the keyboard on the screen (hence could use anything for the keycaps) and some special thixotropic coating so that it gave tactile feedback.

You're onto something here, let cold fingers be a thing of the past! Horrah for DrGlass, horrah for the future!

I was thinking that if the key board buttons got too hot it wouldn't be nice to use... but I suppose if you played your computer out side in the artic it would be nice.

though there is already some space age product out there that warms hands and holds water or tea...

gloves!

So I'm to believe that this 'gloves' product not only heats your chilly fingers, but also can hold an unspecified amount of water or tea? Nonsense! Clap-trap!

Could be very useful. You could go to the movies without buying something to drink but taking something with you. Something you really like....
